Losing Davison sucks, but I don't see this as a massive blow, more like the loss of a nice luxury. It's always great having more bodies to spread the impacts around. But Whittington is tough and can run for short yardage, and Hill is more than capable as well. Both are starting caliber, and they're still running behind a great line. The depth beyond those two is definitely thin (or non-existent) because of the portal, but we've only got two games to go so I like our chances of making it to the finish line.

I think I said this earlier, but I really believe if we win it will be because of Dante slinging it to our stable of home run threats. I just don't see how Indiana covers all of them. If we establish the passing attack early then our RBs will have an even easier time picking up yardage, and we can run enough to keep IU's secondary honest. (Excited to see if maybe Evan Stewart is in the mix for this one.)

The biggest impact of losing Davison might be our fourth-down playcalling. He's money when you only need to pick up a yard. Losing him in goal line situations also sucks, but this might also be the kind of game where we're better off kicking FGs.

Losing Limar and Davison would also impact pass protection as they've some of Oregon's best pass blockers when it comes to picking up blitzes.

This is why I'm wondering if he already had surgery. I know nothing about this kind of injury, but maybe it might be possible for him to play limited possessions as more of a pass blocker/decoy with just a few carries, maybe designed runs to the edge where he's less likely to take a beating.

I was curious if he would stay as RB3 behind Hill/Davison knowing he'd still get plenty of touches.

I'm hopeful he's put his name in but will still practice/play.

Two things come to mind for me.

One is that it will be 2 weeks into the quarter/semester by the time the Ducks finish a potential national championship game. Add 2 weeks to visit schools and negotiate contract terms, then you're looking at finding your next school 4 weeks into the term. If the school is on semesters, you're s*** out of luck for participating in spring practice because you won't be enrolled until the summer. If the school is on quarters but starts spring practice before April, then you're going to miss practices with them, too.

Second is that right now no one has their roster locked down, so as a player this is when you have the maximum number of options. If you wait until after the season, the only options available to you will be at schools who failed to fill their roster during the open window and who don't mind a player not joining until spring/summer. They're stuck with you and you're stuck with them.

So Davison is indeed out. Interesting note is Jay Harris isn't listed even though he announced his intention to transfer.

I looked at the roster searching for players to fill in at RB. There is nobody to replace Davison. Sadiq could run but if he is injured, then what?

3 backs - Whittington, Dierre Hill and Jay Harris - is sufficient bodies. Unfortunately for this game, we had most of our success against IU in game 1 by running right up the middle. Davison reads blocks better than anyone else on the team, so our inside running drops off in all likelihood, and then our pass blocking does, too. None of those three is a fullback. The two-RB sets that I love aren't necessarily out the window, but they're less likely to be effective since Davison and Limar are the best blockers that have played this year, though I will give Whittington a shoutout for always giving it his all despite his small stature.

In a game where your best weapon is running between the tackles, and you need all the blocking you can get to help Dante stay out of his head, it's absolutely s*** luck. I would hope we'll see Kilohana Haasenritter move back to RB even though he's been listed as a DB. He's 5'8, 210, and has actually looked quite good during spring games and open practices.

Harris was practicing with the team Monday so he's likely going to play. Him playing will only help him in the portal since he was buried behind all the other RBs and didn't have much to show other schools.
