I agree about the QB position needing to be filled by someone wanting to be here...But really do you not think Boyd wanted to be here...He committed to us at least twice as a 17 year old completely and totally against the wishes of both his parents and from what I can tell the only reason he didn't come was either his parents made him feel like it would wreck them financially to have to move out here or when Tahj called this weekend and told Dabo he was going to Oregon they showed back up on Monday with a big bag of cash for the parents and they told him he didn't have a choice. Even his dad said he's liked Oregon since he was a kid.

The reason being, b/c most blue chip seniors are blue chip juniors and that is really when the recruiting starts for those kids. So if they watch a 10 win, offensive juggernaut, like Oregon, as a junior, when the coaches come a calling they already are familiar with the program and might have interest. Basically we are in their top 10 list or top 5 list. We are seeing the effects of this with the juniors and the class of 2010. A year and a half of a coach or coaches in your ear is a lot better then 6 months. I think with our recent success we will see it translate to the 2010 class. That is when I think we will be on the map. I expect a big class next year, possibly top 10, with kids from all over the nation. I mean we already have 2 4* recruits and one is from florida. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see him bumped up to a 5* when it's all said and done. Now we have these 2 four star kids helping us with recruiting as well. They go to their all-star camps and tell the other guys there, that they like, to come to Oregon. It starts a domino affect and that is why teams like Florida, USC, Ohio St, LSU, ect. do well, they start getting their guys when they are juniors.
All of that is true, but don't forget that the year before this, we were well on our way to the national championship game until Dixon went down. We seem to be having more of a problem with recruiting this season than last. Shouldn't that be reversed given the theory that it's the junior class interested in us?
But the problem is we didn't win a NC or the pac ten last year. Instead we lost 3 in a row and fell off the map. for us to have an average recruiting of over 3* this year is pretty good for the year we had last year. Next year is going to be big and the year after that. Im telling you we are in for a very nice ride.
Honestly Boyd really would of been gravy. We really didn't need him. I honestly think DT would of beat him out. Next year is the year we need to land a stud QB. and Im sure we will

Don't forget MB's comments in the past that this year's results on the field generally show up in next year's recruiting class, NOT the current one as we might expect. So our current recruiting results for both this year and next seem to be holding true to form.duckgrad99 wrote:Maybe we will finish with a "bang", but I would call this recruiting class good but not great right now. Even recruiting experts have taken note of this class saying that they expected it to be better. With all of our success recently, we should be better than ranked 5th or 6th in the pac-10 this year in terms of recruiting. Our offense was one of the best in the country last year and we finished with 10 wins and ranked 10th, yet we don't have any qb's or rb's in this class and just one wr. I can understand if it's a result of the coaching changes, but then it's a must to do better next year.

We had a great year last year football-wise...not so great year in recruiting this year.RanDux wrote:Don't forget MB's comments in the past that this year's results on the field generally show up in next year's recruiting class, NOT the current one as we might expect. As much as last year felt like a great year the lasting impression on recruits was the 3 straight losses to end the season before the bowl game...by the time the bowl game came around we were just as forgotten as South Florida

Simply put we just need to keep winning (string together back to back to back ect 9+ winning season) and running an exciting brand of Football and the recruits will follow!

Is that why people always mention how explosive our offense was? We got more publicity last year than we will in a while.pudgejeff wrote:As much as last year felt like a great year the lasting impression on recruits was the 3 straight losses to end the season before the bowl game...by the time the bowl game came around we were just as forgotten as South Florida

Ya plenty of publicity but the ending of this season is viewed as success at the end of last year we were viewed as failure by most of the country...hence the reason for the above average recruiting success this year and for the what looks to be greatly successful recruiting season next year...And I as i'm sure many others feel that if we can put together another double digit win top 10 finish together next year that the recruiting success is just going to explode in 2011. Especially if we can put together a National Championship run next year with it being our feasible year schedule wise.

And kids that aren't afraid to be spread option QBs despite those who say that they can't make it to the NFL.MFRDuckFan wrote:King, it is VERY difficult to pull kids from USC because of the infrastructure they have from the moment they are born in that area. Just my point of view on Boyd ~ I've mentioned this to a few guys, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself. When you have a kid that even remotely hesitates in moving to Oregon, even after they've seen the school. (Now this is my opinion).......we don't need them. We need guys, especially in key leadership positions, that absolutely WANT to be here. Would kill to get to come here. No hesitation. We want the guys that want to be part of something great & are not afraid of leaving Mom & Dad. So in my mind, because QB IS the leader of the team, we need him to be 110% engaged. I'm okay with losing Boyd & feel sorry for him at the same time because I don't think he did himself any favors for his ultimate future by choosing them. Just my opinion.

Re: Well That Is A Shot To The Nad's
Oregon has graduated more QB's to the Pro's than Clemson and tOSU has in the last decade combined!
1. Dennis Dixon
2. Kellen Clemens
3. Joey Harrington
4. A.J. Feeley
Oregon has graduated every Spread Option Offense Starting QB to the Pro's since implementing it in 2005!
1. Dennis Dixon
2. Kellen Clemens
tOSU has graduated only ONE QB to the NFL in the 2000's, who was Troy Smith.
Clemson has graduated again, only ONE QB, Charlie Whitehurst, to the NFL in the 2000's, but may graduate Cullen Harper in the 2009 draft.
Oregon is 400% better than Clemson and tOSU at graduating QB's to the NFL. However, we all know Boyd went to Clemson because he wants PT and to stay closer to come.

Not to beat this dead horse, but I just checked onto Tajh Boyd's myspace page & found it interesting that he last logged on 1/28, but didn't post one thing about going to Clemson. I understand he was set to have surgery that day, but I find that very strange. If you just committed to a school, don't you at least make a mention of it? The only mention are the "friends" making posts on his page. Just struck me as weird. Maybe he's not as stoked as some believe. Not that he's going to change his mind, but I found it odd.

I also get this same feeling and it was before you posted this about his Facebook page. Of course I don't know anything and I could be way off base, but I just get that feeling like Clemson wasn't his personal first choice.MFRDuckFan wrote:Not to beat this dead horse, but I just checked onto Tajh Boyd's myspace page & found it interesting that he last logged on 1/28, but didn't post one thing about going to Clemson. Yeah, compare his sites to Nick Cody ~ HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!! I would think if you were stoked, you'd share it with everybody.Destroyer77 wrote:I also get this same feeling and it was before you posted this about his Facebook page.
