The thing that burns me is that he has had his chance already so has Lamike. They have both been found guilty of similar crimes and still got a chance to go to college and be stars. Yet didn't learn their lessons. Of course if they are found not guilty I will gladly eat my words.

I don't think your post is entirely correct. LMJ was not found guilty of a similiar crime. The only incident that has been reported was a 20 person fight with a rivalry football team in HS. Those charges were dropped.

But comeon, even if he WERE found guilty, we are now going to say "they didn't learn their lesson" for a high school fight??

You didn't know the difference between right and wrong in High school? Or college for that matter? Don't get it twisted though, I am not one of the people wanting them booted. If found guilty I would be cool with them being punished the old fashioned way by running after practice till they puke.
If the courts order some community service or probation than that's fine. No need to jump the gun on them because the media says so!

Well yes I did know the difference between right and wrong, but that doesn't mean I didn't make stupid choices in those periods of my life and now look back and think "THANK GOD I didn't get caught." Just because I wasn't caught, doesn't mean I didn't do things that I'm not proud of. I highly doubt there is a single person out there that doesn't have at least something they aren't proud of either.

However, I'm not going to declare a high school fight immoral and say that the person has had an opportunity to show they are above that. Comeon- high school and college is a highly violatile place. Alcohol flows, and fights break out. I'm not saying it's right, but I also don't think we need to look at the people that maybe participated in a physical fight as a "thug" (not that you called them that...some have though!). I don't know about you, but I have plenty of friends that I would be able to say are heathens for their actions. My husband even plays on a flag football team of GROWN adults and fights break out all the time. I doubt those guys will lose their jobs for that...

That being said, I do agree that athletes need to be smarter and make better choices to truly appreciate the gift they were given. As a one time student athlete myself, I can say I was highly disciplined in season, but off season (which is SHORT!) not so much. I kinda feel for some of these guys getting busted for underage drinking in the off season. Sure, it's against the law, but it's a ridiculous law to begin with. (By the way, I'm one of those people that sometimes talks on my cell phone while driving. Clearly, I have issues with laws. )

I agree with what you are saying. I went out last weekend for the first time in 2 years.(since I became a deputy) I went to a popular place around Eugene. (the Rodeo) Seemed like every 15 minutes there was a fight or almost a fight its not just college kids either. There were 35 year old men in there looking for someone to make eye contact with them just so they could be tough. I quickly realized a couple things.
1. it definitely is not my scene anymore I got annoyed by everything, but that's probably because i was drinking ice water.
2. No matter how old you are when you drink you are the baddest man on the planet.
3. It's not just Oregon ducks that are drinking and driving. Or fighting with their girlfriends. I saw one drunk girl slap 3 different guys. One was right in front of a bouncer. She wasn't tossed out or even talked to about it.

felony charge=immediate suspension, felony conviction=gone. Hard to disagree with that.

Didn't mention what the penalty for a misdemeanor is, but assuming that is what LMJ is going to plea to, he'll most likely face some sort of suspension but will remain with the team. Masoli will probably be suspended pending the outcome of the trial. If guilty of a felony he's probably gone, if he is able to plea down to a misdemeanor he may face a similar penalty to James.

^^ +1 ^^ We're just not under the microscope like these guys are and stuff happens when hormones, alcohol & stupidity take over. Just like you, most of us were lucky we didn't get caught.

It's best to have specific policies in place in order to take the pressure off of Chip having to vet this stuff out as it happens. His hands will be tied.

From what some people were saying on here, the athletic department knew knew what from day one. So I dont know where all of this "he lied" stuff is coming from.

All this hysteria is sending everyone in a panic and we just need to relax and let this run its course.

Masoli possibly being off the team just speeds up DT's expected impact on the team.

True, but the same happened after the loss of Blount too. I think Chip and Helfrich will adjust the offense accordingly if need be. If DT is the guy then we will probably throw a lot more than we did with JM. Will take some adjusting but at least we have a manageable schedule to get used to it in the first half of the season. That 2nd half of the schedule is a killer though.
