Don't forget the 3-3 4th down conversions. Anyway, we got the victory tonight, but the team really has to improve in all aspects going forward. 33 percent is fine for tonight, but what about that last touchdown by Purdue? Anyway, I don't think a defense plays well when they give up 36 points.

I kept telling my wife last night that our D is feast or famine. They will either make a big play or just get driven down on for a score. I am very thankful for the 17pts, but lets be honest here...it wasn't a great performance anyway you slice it. The last touchdown had no business working..4th n 11..c'mon. They ran not ONE but TWO sweeps on 4th n 1..was obvious the 2nd time it was coming. The DLine just needs to get more pressure on the QB..bottom line.. and for the love of God, TACKLE..WRAP UP!
I know they are on the field a lot, but we do rotate a lot of players as well..it's not like Purdue was doing any trickeration last night, it was run, run, run.

He needs to put more touch on his passes. I enjoy that he has a gun, but he needs to choose his levels of velocity according to the situation. It is not just him. The WRs are having problems bringing in the ball according to the age old rule of "if it hits you in the hands, catch it", but it is harder to catch those rockets. But if Masoli throws that ball to Holland with a little bit of loft towards the sideline then it is a touchdown.

My take on the game:

-Walter Thumond played amazing today. Purdue threw it at him a lot and I think they got like 1 completion on him. His kick returns were amazing, he really knows how to find the hole. His punt returns were VERY impressive(holding penalties called them back). GREAT reed on the pick 6, he knew it was coming and stepped in front for the TD!
Without Thurmond we would have lossed this game BIG. He gave us great field position everytime. Obviously the MVP of the game!

-Casey Matthews had a great game also. One of the few guys on our team that wasn't ARM tackling. Also had an interception, and was everywhere on the field it seemed.

-Bryson Littlejohn. WOW, he had some huge hits in this game. He is really gonna be a stud!

-TJ the 3rd. Last year defenses took advantage of him big time, and it happened again today. A lot of missed tackles on his part and he pass-coverage was pretty bad. He never turns his head when the ball is in the air and the reciever just goes over him and makes the catch. Really frustrating to watch.

-Arm tackling. This has come to a point where it's just really hard to watch. It really needs to stop or else we are gonna be in BIG trouble when we face even more physical teams in the pac-10. The coaches need to have a talk to them about that.

-Jamere Holland. 3 drops on his part today(one wasn't his fault). Besides those drops he had a great game. Great route-runner and great speed. He could really be something GREAT for the ducks if he could hang onto the ball. Those DB's couldn't keep up with him.

-Maehl. He just continues to disappoint. What is wrong with him? It seems like he hasn't gotten better since 2 years ago. He had never broken a tackle it seems like. He's very useful on the screen pass, but how is that useful when you can't even catch the ball?

Other notes:

Masoli looked better then the Boise State game but still has a long way to go to live up to the hype that duck fans were giving him.
Crenshaw seems awfully slow and cannot find the hole.
James really turned it on in the 2nd half, the O-Line finally gave him some room to work with. All he needs is some room to work with and watch from there.
Special teams was solid overall today IMO.

Last gripe - Why are we not getting the ball to Ed Dickson?!?!?!
And yes, I totally blame Masoli on this one for not getting the ball to him. The coaches do a great job of getting Dickson open, but Masoli NEVER looks his way.

I'm not even joking. About 5-6 times Dickson was WIDE open, I mean WIDE open. Masoli's stats would be a lot better if he looked at Ed Dickson more often.

Glad I'm not the only one that saw Dickson open countless times^

The fact that we aren't making an attempt to get him the ball more disgusts me. I'd be furious if I were him.

Getting the ball to bid Ed would help our WRs. It would be nice if for every passing play the opponents defense would be looking his way so Holland could scream down the field.

Oregon was better when Dickson was in for every play.

Another thing the Ducks coaches need to emphasize this week in practice is limiting the number of penalties. The Ducks killed good field position on special teams and a number of drives with stupid penalties.

I am having a hard time remembering a game where our tight ends have had an awesome game since Chip came here.

We have to start playing to our strengths. According to all that talk before the season, TE is definitely a strength.

Seriously? Again, I find myself defending Maehl. What more do you want the guy to do? It's ok for Holland to have 3 drops because of the potential, but you're willing to criticize Maehl for 1 drop despite of the production?

Maehl had a big 3rd down conversion for us yesterday, and is generally very consistent. Can you say that about any other WR on this team? Didn't think so.

Since you're disappointed, what do you expect of him besides consistently getting open and being good for 8-9 yds a pop? What did he do to piss you off lol?

He definitely dropped more than one pass. He also nearly cost the Ducks the game when they brought him in as part of the hands team and he failed to haul in the onside kick that hit him in the hands.

Maehl and Holland both need to play better, that is the bottom line.

It would be nice to get the ball to some other WRs too, but Maehl and Holland will get the hang of it. Holland had a big td pass on that pump and go. Unfortunately he dropped it.
