Re: Bye Bye Blount
When he had the ball LMJ looked pretty sweet... at least we know he can play at DI P10 speed...
We can take two things into the game on Sat... everything else is ????
1) LMJ is fast
2) J Rice can punt
GO DUCKS!

Ideally Rice never steps foot on the field during the entire game.uodux1212 wrote:When he had the ball LMJ looked pretty sweet... at least we know he can play at DI P10 speed...

Re: Bye Bye Blount
Yeah but who is to take credit for Blount's success last year? Our OL was killing last season AND Masoli/JJ and the rest of the gang made his life very easy. I'm not trying to take anything away from Blount last season because he was a beast. But every game where the ducks have played strong teams (Boise State, Cal, USC), he has done NOTHING.Pontius wrote:UOducksTK1 wrote:Bye Blount. I must say it sucks to see him get suspended for good, but I can say we did exactly the right thing.
Time to move on. LaMichael James was more impressive against Boise than any other duck on Thursday (which isn't saying a whole lot haha). I truly believe he'll be a poor mans version of Best this year. Speed kills.
It's not only not saying a whole lot, it's saying NOTHING of value. It's one goddamn game. James had 2 carries and 75% of Blount's carries had NO CHANCE to begin with through no fault of his own. Blount averaged over 7 yards a carry last season and set a school record for TDs. You have got to be kidding me with this BS rhetoric that has been passed around by University apologists with regard to Blount's football ability. Move on? Okay, but at least admit that the whole thing has simply been a smear job done my self-righteous, emotional dead weights who lack the common decency of relative forgiveness.
He's too slow out of the line. And with a weaker offensive line and a less talented supporting cast, I doubt Blount would have torn it up like he did last season.
And I'm not determining James' skills and talent based on the BSU game. We've seen how explosive and shifting he was in HS. He proved during the spring and summer that he's got legit talent to be our starting RB. The worst thing about losing Blount is we miss that bruising back and that game changing player.
LMJ will do fine. He'll put up 150+ against Purdue.

Re: Bye Bye Blount
That could go both ways though. It's possible that no running back, no matter what their strengths are, can do well with a bad OL or against a superior DL. That seems to be the Phil Steele formula. One that I disregarded initially but have to respect now given our performance at BSU.UOducksTK1 wrote:Yeah but who is to take credit for Blount's success last year? At BSU, if you were to measure Blount's production from the point of his first contact with a defender, it wouldn't have been as bad. He broke and eluded a number of tackles. The problem was that he was shedding tacklers well behind the line of scrimmage nearly every time he got the ball. That's on the OL.

Re: Bye Bye Blount
I think Blount needs a good OL to thrive. He's best once he gets past the line and runs forward.. But when he spends most of his time 3 yards behind the line running sideline to sideline to evade defenders, that's where he struggles.wheaton4prez wrote:That could go both ways though. With a quicker RB, I think you can get away with a poor OL. A more explosive RB than can get past to the line before the defense even has a chance.
His style of play seems like it would thrive best in the NFL or in a pro style running game.

I am not as optimistic about 150+ yards (sounds good though). For LMJ to really successfull as an every down back he still has to show us he can shed or break some of the initial contact that might be even more prevelant with a new line. I hope I will be more confident with our running game come sunday. We need to have at least some threat to run between the tackles.

You could be right. I'm still on the fence. Masoli's arm hadn't even left the hand-off zone when defenders were right there. LMJ is faster. But, he's probably also easier to take down than Blount.UOducksTK1 wrote:His style of play seems like it would thrive best in the NFL or in a pro style running game.
