No wonder the genius Dennis Dodd has CK on the hot seat - CK giving kickers scholorships and all. I mean, really, when have we ever needed a kicker to win a game?

Lol that is true, but field position is important. Our defense could use the extra help for how long they are out there. And a kick last year cost us a game (not blaming Maldanado, just saying though).RanDux wrote:Even though he doesn't use the kicking game as much.UOducksTK1 wrote:I like how strong CK is recruiting the kicking game.

Seems like the kicking game has been feast or famine, for the Ducks, over the years. Be nice to get back the the "Feast Mode".

We still wouldn't have gotten in the NC game over Bama, so nothing really lost by the loss to USC.duckfan96 wrote:yes Maldanado missed that 38 yarder against usc, but to lay the whole season on him? I dont see that. Lots of ifs in there. Should he have made it ...yup. But it would be nice to see a kicker that had the leg of Siegel in a Oregon uniform again.

Re: Kicker Matt Wogan commits to Oregon
First, he should not have been in there. USC's defense was tired and Oregon's offense was unstoppable at the moment. It still disgusts me somewhat that Chip played for the field goal, because that's not the Chip we've grown to love. However, Maldonado does have one freakin job, kick field goals. And this was a pretty easy one. 38 yards straight on, and not only did he miss it, it was nowhere close. He gets a scholarship to do one thing, and he couldn't do it when it mattered most. To me he deserve a lot of criticism for that bad miss. However, you are right, it should not have come down to that field goal. If Vaughn catches that 4th down screen play that would've been for a touchdown, if DAT didn't fumble the ball, if LMJ's brace didn't break, if Huff didn't drop key passes, if the O-line blocked well, if Cliffy never was an idiot and played that game, lots of things that happened that wasn't under Maldonado's control. However, it came down to him and he should've been able to do the one thing he practices.duckfan96 wrote:yes Maldanado missed that 38 yarder against usc, but to lay the whole season on him? Except a little pride and bragging rights - possibly a little edge in recruiting.RanDux wrote:We still wouldn't have gotten in the NC game over Bama, so nothing really lost by the loss to USC.duckfan96 wrote:yes Maldanado missed that 38 yarder against usc, but to lay the whole season on him? Re: Kicker Matt Wogan commits to Oregon
I wanted to throw a couple things out there that was thinking as I was reading the posts on this thread. The first thing which I might be mistaken on in regards to Maldonado is when he came out of high school if I am not msitaken he was one of the top kickers in the country. I am not coming down on him and saying he has not done his job per se. I am just saying in terms of his talent coming out of high school he was a really good kicker.
Now as far as the missed 38 yard field goal, I think most everybody would agree that he should have made it. Most kickers do and possibly most often Maldonado does although it looked at the end of the season he was having difficulty on his field goals. That could be an injury or confidence level or who knows. I think Maldonado would agree he should have made it.
As far as the USC loss, I do not blame the USC loss on Maldonado and never have. It is one play and not fair to blame it all on Maldonado. I had a couple of thoughs after the game and those still ring true today, the loss was more of a result of all the dropped passes by our receivers which were plenty of them. Josh Huff had a couple crucial drops. Our D line gave Barkley all day to pass and with the 2 receivers they have I do not care who you are can not let Barkley have all day and expect to win. Barkley is to good to give that much time to.
I like Oregon going after a good kicker and hopefully this one pans out. Not saying Maldonado has not. One kick does not make a good kicker or a bad kicker. No kicker is perfect even in the pros. I think has been a number of kickers in the pros miss a 38 yarder when the game is on the line and that does not make them a bad kicker. Now if they do it repeatedly then they will probably be getting a pink slip from their current team.

You can chalk up the loss to two things... 1) Ducks had their head in their asses first 3 quarters. 2) Kiffy and the Trojans came to play and beat us fair and square.GoDucksIn09 wrote:I wanted to throw a couple things out there that was thinking as I was reading the posts on this thread. Re: Kicker Matt Wogan commits to Oregon
I don't think he's coming to UO to punt so it doesn't really matter how his punting is. From all reports he was recruited to only do kick offs.
