Edit: Just read that it's undecided. Could come back from a wrist injury, could not.
It's cool beating teams at full-health, but frankly, I think Doctson is arguably the best player in the country. History rarely remembers who played anyway, so I would be perfectly fine if Doctson stayed on the sidelines for this one.
He will be healthy enough to play. Maybe not completely 100%, but he'll be ready to go. I think he's only a catch or two from the school career record. The big question regarding him playing or not revolves around the advice he's getting from a third party (future NFL agent) who it seems is telling him to hang it up and make sure he's healthy for the combine.
We are incredibly deep at WR, but Doctson is a rare talent and a great kid. Hope he plays.

We are excited about this game, and feel like we match up well with y'all. Should be a fun one to watch. To touch on a few things I've read in the first couple posts...
1) we aren't scared. Excited because this is a good match up with national attention (lots of talking heads calling it the most exciting non-NY6 bowl this year... And If not that, we'll at least have the best dressed teams. Thanks Nike!)
2) Boykin will be 100% by game time. Very good for us because that guy is (I'm biased but several coaches have said this) the best player in college football this year, and easily the most important to his team. Our O really struggled when he wasn't around (doesn't help that we have a SR walkon and RS FR backing him up)
3) we haven't been healthy all year, so there's really no full strength for you to measure off of this season. We started the year missing around 6 starters due to injury, and the injuries just piled on. We got to a point where 20 players on our 2 deep have missed time due to injury... Pretty nuts. We've played 30 freshman this year, several of whom got significant PT and some started. I really think this was Coach P's greatest coaching job to date... Seems crazy that we won 10 games again.
I've seen several "they don't play defense" comments, which is laughable. Coach Patterson is possibly the greatest defensive mind in the game today (Saban up there as well). Our league is an incredibly offensive-oriented league, so it really is not so much that there's no defense as it is that the offenses are great. I'm excited to see how our D handles y'alls up tempo fast offense. Just don't think we aren't prepared for it, bc our defense practices against it every day.
My prediction for the game is both teams around 30-45 or so range. Looks like the initial betting lines are just barely in our favor. I'm gonna say TCU wins a good one 41 - 34. Although, I wouldn't mind us coming out like we did in the Peach Bowl last year and running a train over the Ducks. That ain't gonna happen though.
Hope to meet any of y'all down in SA and have a beer or 20. Looking forward to this one!
Go Frogs!
FSU, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Texas, Michigan State and pretty much the entire PAC 12 for the last 7 years said they thought they matched up "well" with us too. Every year it seems like fanbases of opponents seem to underestimate us. And unless your Ohio State or the SEC it does t usually work out for them.

I don't think saying "we match up well" means I, or any of us, are underestimating UO. We play pretty similar styles of football, these are probably the two most athletic and fastest teams in college football. I just think it's a good matchup. I've already stated I think it'll be a tough, close game.

Then again, fully healthy we almost lost to Washington, ASU, and OSU.
I see us both as pretty comparable teams. TCU's run defense is actually worse than ours.
Game is going to come down to who plays a cleaner game. Whoever turns the ball over less and wins the special teams battle is likely going to win. Both teams are going to get their points.

I think the folks at the Alamo bowl should make sure the score board has enough numbers.
I think this will be a great game by two great football programs. Team with the ball last will
more then likely win. I would rather watch this game then games like Mich state and Alabama.
The bama vs Florida game was painfully boring. Then switched to the Iowa Mich game and it was
worse. This game should be a blast to watch. And i think thats what bowl games should be about.
Not only rewarding the schoools for a good season but also the fan bases.

My initial thoughts on this game (other than our clear mascot advantage) are that we have done worst against the pass this season, and now along comes a team who relies heavily on passing, and they do it really well. It seems like our DB's are going to have to grow up over the next month, or it could be a long night at the Alamo.

My guess is this will somehow turn into the opposite of what everyone expects, kinda like the Auburn/Oregon National Championship, it will be something like 24-21.

I wonder what would happen if you put a flock of Ducks against a knot of Frogs. Let's just be honest, we don't matchup well with most of the Pac-12 teams.
I think our poor passing reflects our scheme and lack of pressure on the QB too. Also since our LBs are always out of position, this forces our DBs to have to compensate by moving up to stop the run. Also, it's pretty infrequent that teams go for the homerun ball or seriously attack the one on one coverage. Most completions recently have been on our zone overages. Exploiting the middle level just behind the LBs.

Translated, our defense sucks and we have to outscore teams to win. TCU will shred us, lets just hope they can't stop us either.

I'm worried about this game because TCU at least had a pulse on defense. After the second half in the Civil War, I'm sure TCU is excited to go up against that defense. I don't see Pillows dialing anything that'll slow down TCU. For Oregon to win this game, they need to get up to an early lead and not turn the ball over, because TCU will turnovers into points, or the Oregon defense will allow turnovers to turn into points. Tough game for sure, but I just don't trust the defense enough, but I sure hope they prove me wrong!

My suggestion - if y'all are gonna score, best do it in the 1st half. Our 2nd half D has been good down the stretch (except for that OSU game. Everyone was bad that day). I think in our last 3 games, the D has only given up 2 second half scores.
In regards to our offense, they are a bit better than the team that put up 42 against Ole Miss in the peach bowl (w/ backups playing the 4th Q). Ole Miss had the #1 scoring D last season. We are obviously hoping for another showing similar to that!

Ehh, when VA is behind center no one can stop us, our problem is we can't stop anyone either. Its going to come down to which coach manages the clock best and ends up with the ball last leaving no time left for even a single play after the score.

Sounds like TCU's All-American WR, Josh Doctson, won't be ready in time for the Alamo Bowl.

RECEIVING STATISTICS
NAME REC YDS AVG LONG TD
Josh Doctson 79 1327 16.8 55 (TD) 14
Kolby Listenbee 29 598 20.6 60 (TD) 5
KaVontae Turpin 40 584 14.6 86 (TD) 8
Shaun Nixon 38 430 11.3 70 1
Desmon White 19 258 13.6 47 0
Jarrison Stewart 19 226 11.9 33 1
He had double the yards, double the receptions, and double the touchdowns than the next closest TCU WR. They pass quite a bit though, and it seems like they have a solid 3 other guys who get a fair amount of touches.
