It'll be interesting to see how Hoke does as DC when he's not done that job since the 80s at a HS. That puts me in a wait-and-see mode because I don't want to be outright negative or positive without seeing something on the field.

Maybe he will want to, but as of last night the coaches were over his drama and moving on.

Indeed. Moseley points out that Lubick had never been an OC, though most seemed to applaud that move. And, for that matter, Chip had.never been a HC. We'll just have to see. Surely Helf knows this will be Hoke's first college DC gig. I'll tentatively trust that Half's instincts are good on this hire.

I think Hoke taking last year off from coaching and visiting different programs makes him a potentially good hire since he's had time to decompress and look at different schemes from a different perspective.

Interesting Q. With Aiken making $500K as a DL coach, I can easily see Hoke getting around $750K.

I bet Aiken's nfl experience play a role in his larger than normal salary for his position. I don't think 600k is the max necessarily, I just don't have much of a clue ha ha. Maybe he'll start out around 500k with incentives. Just a thought.

Obviously nobody knows for sure how this will work out, but I do think this has the potential to be a home run hire. Everything I have ever heard and read about Hoke indicates he is a very good and energetic recruiter, so it is an A+ from that standpoint. The worry over him never technically having the title of "defensive coordinator" at the college level is overblown as well. As Helfrich pointed out, when Hoke was the head coach at these various schools, he was always intimately involved with coaching the defense and was the de facto defensive coordinator at times. If this doesn't work out, it isn't going to be due to a lack of experience.

What a great hire!! Our coaching staff is so ridiculously stacked right now. We have no more excuses for not winning.

This says it all to me:
Hoke's defense improved from a unit that in 2010 ranked 108th in the Football Bowl Subdivision in scoring defense and 110th in yards allowed to one that ranked among the top 20 in the country in scoring and total defense in 2011 and 2012. The final year of his tenure was the Wolverines' best on defense as they ranked seventh in the nation, allowing only 311.3 yards per contest.
