BSU is going to miss an extra point? Or, is that 1 TD and two field goals?dd10snoop28 wrote:Boise State 35-13

Wheaton, surely that clever, never seen before, scheme Petersen brought that you're referring to, isn't the play-action pass; because that's what I saw that killed us.
To your point though, I think, it was undisciplined (aka poorly coached) LBer play that hurt us in coverage. I don't see that happening again, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
I hope you all are right about this big blowout, I just don't see it....

Re: What will the Ducks vs Broncos Final Score be?
I say the Ducks by 10 for a few reasons:
1. Our D won't bite on that play fake this year nearly as bad this year. And if they bite as bad as they did last year, they deserve to lose.
2. Masoli is one year better with not only injuries way behind him, but also 3/4 of a year of starting plus full camps.
3. If something happens to Masoli, I have a lot more confidence in this year's Costa/Thomas backup combo than last year's early Masoli/Harper/Thomas.
4. This might sound kind of dumb, but Chip does not seem like the type that would lose two games in a row to a team like Boise St. Not only can he make the offensive adjustments, but now he has the authority to make the defensive adjustments.
5. Our guys have something to prove. Chip won't let them become over confident (like they were last year) and they know this game is HUGE on way too many levels to lose.

Doesnt sound dumb at all, in fact I totally agree. I just dont see CK (or the coaching staff in general) not having the team prepared to go into boise and take care of the business at hand.freedjr wrote:4. Have some of you forgotten how easily we were moving the ball against BSU last year before Masoli got a concussion or after Darron Thomas came in at QB?

According to the BSU faithful, the Broncos purposefully give up points in the first quarter. Oodles of points. THEN, the defense makes perfect adjustments. For the next two quarters, it's a "shut down" defense. So in summary you are totally wrong: we weren't moving the ball, we were giving away our game plan, oh no!

Never seen before as in running formations that they hadn't run in the past. I hadn't followed BSU much before then so I couldn't speak to the specific adjustments. But, I remember reading articles after the game about how BSUs scheme was unexpectedly and substantially different from the schemes they ran for the first games of the season. The Ducks had prepared for them based on film from those first games.Elduderino wrote:Wheaton, surely that clever, never seen before, scheme Petersen brought that you're referring to, isn't the play-action pass; because that's what I saw that killed us.

Are you serious wheaton? Come on now, we threw an interception in the red zone... When we weren't scoring we were throwing interceptions or fumbling footballs or missing FGs:wheaton4prez wrote:BSU didn't win last year because of mistake free football and a couple turnovers. Peterson came out with a clever not-seen-before offensive adjustment that exploited our over-commitment to the run and we lost our passing game in the first quarter. Even with those things happening, we almost came back to win.UOducksTK1 wrote:Last year they had a extremely inexperienced QB come in and everyone thought we'd roll over Boise.wheaton4prez wrote:I think it will be more lop-sided than the ass-whoop'n option allows.
Don't see BSU moving the ball well at all. They don't look to have a running game. Moore is an efficient passer. But, they don't have enough depth at receiver to be able to exploit our softer spots in the D backfield. They'll probably try and run a bunch of crossing and flood patterns to get their top catchers in specific players zones. But, that will just give Rowe and Tukuafu time to do their work.
My friend, don't underestimate the mid majors. They don't need the best talent to win. They just have to play a mistake free game and create a couple turnovers. Especially with them being home, a few turnovers could mean the difference in this game.
GO ducks!
Peterson won't be able to pull off a stunt like that twice. I don't think that I'm underestimating them. I'm correctly estimating the programs and how they will prepare for each other this time around.

OUR ONLY TD IN THE 2ND AND 3RD QUARTERS STARTED BECAUSE OF AN INTERCEPTION. So in my eyes, BSU won because they limited turnovers and mistakes. Oregon lost because of mistakes.
Sure there can be more than that. But if Boise State had 4 turnovers last year and 2 missed FGs, I guarantee we would have come out on top.

And to add to my argument, if we turn it over against Boise on the smurf turf, I'll expect it to be even harder to recover.

How many FGs/PATs were missed last year against Boise State... Certainly enough to make a difference.

BSU had mistakes. They had two turnovers which is pretty average for a game. Your argument is that they can win if they play mistake free football. In this case, they won with mistakes. So, it must have been something else.UOducksTK1 wrote:Are you serious wheaton? Come on now, we threw an interception in the red zone... That something else is, as I pointed out, losing our passing game early. Masoli didn't throw any interceptions. Harper threw two. Thomas threw one but only when we were playing from way behind and they knew we would pass.
Oregon lost because they were outcoached on defense and they didn't have a capable passer in for most of the game.
Because both of those scenarios are unlikely this time around, using how competitive BSU was last year as a basis for how competitive the game will be this year is not a compelling comparison, imo.
More indicative is how each team has improved since last year and how Oregon having a competent passer in the game will affect the outcome. I think that Oregon has some question marks regarding the offensive line. But, on the sum of things appears to have improved significantly at receiver, QB and linebacker. BSU doesn't appear to have improved at all. Rather, they lost their star RB, best two receivers and starters all over their D. They only have 5 seniors on the entire team. Oregon has 16. All BSU has improved is a blue field.
Oregon is going to knock the crap out of this team.

From the sound of things, the Smurf Turf is currently a disappointment, at least appearance-wise...

Or did the field look like crap on Friday? Are they going to do anything to make it look better? It's a brand new field with only one year of play on it. It's not wearing well at all!
I guess that makes it a wash.

Isn't that what all teams but the Ducks do? I know old Petey in SC loves playing from behind.
