Purude's offense is already clicking today. Granted it's Toledo, but still.

Re: Purdue vs Oregon Game Week Thread
It doesn't seem like our players wrap up the ball carrier. Most just try to shoulder them down and hope the force makes them fall down. That kind of tackling doesn't work and is all about trying to deliver the biggest hit possible, not making the surest tackle to end a play.woundedknees wrote:Tackling was horrendous.

Well I guess our offense wasn't on the field enough to show tendencies other than throwing to Maehl, so Purdue will be in the dark what to prepare for.

No score prediction from me, but I think we get back to the running game as well. Now that the line has a better grasp on what to expect, I expect them to do better as well. Kelly will make the necessary adjustments, and hopefully we'll look back at this game as an aberration of 1st game jitters.

Re: Purdue vs Oregon Game Week Thread
I keep hearing how we need to go back to the run. For the last few years the holes the offensive line would open up you could drive a truck through. I saw no holes for runningbacks on thursday night. Not even small ones. And Boise only had 6 in the box the whole game. What happens when teams stack 8 in the box to stop the run. Blount was being wrapped up in the backfield on every running play. Even though his running was so slow he didn't break a tackle all game, he didn't get much help. I don't see us being the dominant rushing team we have been. We have to throw more and get rid of it fast!
Blount was hard to bring down once he got moving but obviously not hard to tackle before he even started running. Hopefully James being much faster than Blount can help with this.

I was actually wondering during the BSU game if Chip wouldn't better serve the team by being the coaches' box, although I really think the Head Coach needs to be on the field face-to-face with his players.

JoPa was in the box most of last year after getting injured. Maybe we need Chip in the box and Coach Azz firing up the players on the sideline.yngtone wrote:I was actually wondering during the BSU game if Chip wouldn't better serve the team by being the coaches' box, although I really think the Head Coach needs to be on the field face-to-face with his players.

Yeah, it might work with Chip in the box, although I'm not exactly sure who's calling the plays. I just think his offensive mind needs to be able to see the field if he is still directing the offense, atleast until he works out the kinks of becoming a total game manager.

If Helfrich called the plays then Kelly needs to take over that responsibility for the remainder of the season. If Kelly called the plays then he needs to adjust and go back to what works for the Ducks.

Dude I hope you're right! I am scared to death (sick to my stomach) about this weeks games and aftermath! I just don't know what team will show up, I actually thought our Defense did well (under the circumstances), our offense on the other hand scares the s*** outa me....so I hope you are right!Phenom wrote:I feel sorry for Purdue next week...
My God how do they fix what happened? I am hoping to hell BSU is that good or at least played out of their minds for one week! I have faith (I think) but I sure would like at least one cream puff team before we play anyone else, to warm up and get our confidence going...

I could not DISAGREE more with this statement. Holland was by far the most dangerous looking man on the field and should get no less than 7 touches per game.EncinitasDuck wrote:Expect to see a couple of the new receivers on the field and Holland will sit a bit this game after a couple drops last night.

As long as our O line improves, our offense will get back to being the force it has been the last two years. And IMO,they will. It's not like we have a bunch of chumps up front who don't have any skill or talent. The guys we have are all very skilled lineman, they just need to get more experience & mesh a little bit. I think they will just improve as the year goes on & so will our offense.

I don't know about most dangerous man on the field. But, he was getting open. Masoli just didn't have time to find him.Destroyer77 wrote:I could not DISAGREE more with this statement. If Holland would have caught that deep pass that hit him on the hands, it might have changed the game. But, definitely worth giving him another shot, imo.

I wonder if Holland already knew he was offsides on the play when he bobled the ball.
Still would have loved to see a couple long touch passes instead of lasers.
