Another guy that might be interesting would be Corey Dennis from UNLV.

If you want a wild card there's Jon Gruden!
Nearly had him under chip, why not this time around?

Looks like Oregon will indeed hire Mehringer as the new OC. Had a feeling this would be the case after losing out on Faulkner and as a way to keep Moore another year.

I don't necessarily hate continuity hires, so long as they're the best candidate or close to it. Oregon succeeded for a long time by building up guys internally, while it also contributed to its downfall under Helf and that defensive staff. I'll certainly be rooting for Mehringer and, again, hope those saved dollars get us some* great young linemen.

Will be interesting to see if he is going to coach QBs as OC or continue coaching TEs. He has coached both positions in his career. I guess we'll find out by whoever the next assistant coach ends up being. If he stays at TE, then I wonder if someone like North Texas' non-playcalling OC would be an option as a co-OC/QB coach.

I wonder if Lanning will bring in any new position coaches to help out. Mehringer was also the Tight Ends coach and I think Tosh was coaching Linebackers.

Hard to not trust Lanning after all his previous coordinator hires. Mehringer has been a trusted assistant since coming here and has been the offense's eyes in the sky. You hear him all the time in the Ducks vs Them giving suggestions on plays that'll work. It'll be interesting what position group Mehringer ends up coaching. He's a good TE coach but he's also got experience coaching QBs. Could be the perfect opportunity to get another young guy on staff they can groom for future advancement.

This one’s definitely more interesting than the Hampton promotion… Hampton might have actually been the best option out there but Mehringer? Not so much.

Dan has obviously gone outside the program previously so you have to assume this is actually his top choice, not just a convenience hire.

If by nearly had him, you mean he would have had to get divorced to move to UO, then we almost had him. But he has clearly said his wife was never going to Eugene.

I guess I’m missing why DM gets so much hate from UO fans? UO is quickly catching up to Iowa as TE U, if he was to stick at TE Coach. Ferg was a 2nd rounder, Sadiq will be a 1st, Johnson will be a 1-2 rounder, and we just signed the top TE freak in the country. Do people not like him because of Texas? That whole team was toxic, not just WRs.

Mark Helfrich was arguably the best offensive playcaller in Oregon history, and even when he was officially the "OC" he was basically a glorified offensive analyst for Chip. Turns out that he was dynamite, and we all found out once he became HC and started calling plays.

Maybe this is a similar situation? Maybe Dan sees something the rest of us haven't had a chance to experience. Time will tell, but in Dan The Man I trust.

What years did Helfrich call plays here? I genuinely don't remember that.

The year we had Mariota and went to the championship vs Ohio State. Helfrich was HC but called plays for the offense like Chip did when he was HC.
