I believe it’s the exact opposite. Moore has more talent, but his biggest weakness last year was his decision making. He only played significant snaps in 7 games last year, and threw 9 picks and was sacked 25 times.

Thanks for that context. I haven't seen much of Moore so this is definitely good to know.

Anyone thinking Moore is going to be a better decision maker than Gabriel at this point in their careers is sorely mistaken. Moore has a bright future, but there’s a reason he was happy to transfer to backup. He admitted he needed more time to develop due to the college game being a little too fast for him last year.

It seems that some of our fans did not watch him play last year. There is no way he is better than Gabriel. It;s not close in any way.

Somebody did a YouTube video of idiots intentionally dropping the ball while crossing the goal line. It is surprisingly common, and lots of times nobody notices. If I was coaching them, I'd make the skill players practice handing the ball the referee this week. Sadly, they have a lot of other things to work on. But I suspect that UO players will figure it out on their own, at least this year.

Without going all the way back to Harrington, Mariota would scramble and find Carrington, Lyeria or Allen for 17 yards, Thomas would find Huff or Barner for the 1st down, Nix would scramble and find Franklin or Tez streaking around and hit em for 22 yards, but when Gabriel getting flushed from the pocket he either gets sacked, runs into the middle of the defense or throws it 2 yards to a runningback who is covered by 2 defenders for a couple yards and it's 4th and 6.
He is a terrific quarterback, but doesn't have very good field vision when the play breaks down. At this point he is who he is. He's a 6th year starter and now you kinda see why Ok didn't put up much of a fuss when he left. He cannot put the team on his back and win the game by himself like so many other past Oregon quarterbacks.

I have to rewatch, but since no one else has pointed it out, the defensive line seemed to really drop off late in the game. They were frequently rushing four and nobody was beating their man to get pressure on the QB. So for as much as the OL improved during the game, I'm slightly concerned the DL started to struggle.

QBs get all the attention, good and bad, but if Oregon has a less experienced and capable QB to start the year, the ducks would be 1-1 or 0-2. That TD to Holden on the blitz is a great example.

I don't think you'll find many Duck fans satisfied with that win. Relieved? Absolutely. But there is nothing about this team currently that screams National Title contender.

Offense

- No disrespect, but we can't play Pickard at Center anymore. It was evident when Poncho moved to Center the running lanes magically appeared. The ill-timed snap on 3rd and short deep in our own territory was the final straw for me.
- The jury is still out on Gabriel. When he has time, it's hard to find a QB who throws a prettier deep ball. I'm sure he'd like those two throws in the 4th back to Stewart and Holden, and I do think those are completions later on in the season. He was also marvelous on that 3rd down scramble in the 3rd (right before the fumble by Herbert). BUT there's something "off" to me and for a 6th year Senior, that's a bit concerning. He ran into multiple blitzes. He's not audibling to hot routes when the defense is showing an obvious blitz/pressure. He doesn't look very confident and one has to assume it's due to the terrible line play.
- Will Stein. Where to start? Why are you calling a pass behind the LOS to our slowest TE (Herbert) when the team was about to put the nail in the coffin? The three straight runs up the middle show zero confidence or faith in the team. I do not blame the fans for boo'ing that series. MAX protect seemed to work but that's where the adjustments stopped. Why not roll DG out? Why not throw screen passes to Sadiq or the RBs when you know pressure is coming?
- The penalties. For a veteran bunch, they sure play undisciplined football. Dan needs to start holding these players accountable. Holden should've been sat for the rest of the half after committing that shove which derailed a drive.
- Speaking of Dan, where is this depth you keep talking about? Yeah they rotated OL but we really only saw two RB (James/Whittington) and the starters at WR. It's really frustrating watching other teams and seeing them play their Freshman while ours are all sitting on the bench and it's not like the starters are dominating either.
- Evan, Tez, and Kenyon are electric. Find ways to get them the ball in space.

Defense

- I keep reading that this defense is legit and that's not what I'm seeing. We played soft for a large portion of that game. Boise St bullied us for the majority of the game up front. There was a stretch in the 3rd where we got into the backfield but it was short-lived. Boise was able to create massive lanes for their RBs all game long and did so after a starter went down early on. Allowing 34 points and nearly 200 yards rushing to Jeanty shouldn't leave anyone feeling good.
- The LB and S need to take better pursuit angles. I saw them overrun a lot of plays which led to Jeanty running wild. Re-watched the highlights and man does Bassa take some tough angles. Tysheem also really got himsefl in bad position on that long TD run after the Herbert fumble.
- The DL had their moments but for a unit that was pretty disruptive last season and hit the portal HARD, I gotta be honest ... I haven't seen near the dominance in the trenches that was expected. This goes back to a point above, but where is the depth? I'd love to see the young players get a chance.
- Boise had a stretch there where they converted 3-4 consecutive 3rd and longs via the air in the 2nd-half. At home, you need to get off the field

Special Teams

- They were special. Hands down the reason we won that game. Gave me Stanford 2001 vibes when the only way we could score in the 2nd half was kick or punt returns.
- Thank you Jayden Limar! Absolutely no reason for Noah to drop the ball short, especially as an upper classman.
- Devon Jackson's hustle was special on the KR for TD. If only DAT had blocked for Mariota like that in 2012 ..
- Anyone else stressed over making a game-ending 25 yard FG from straight on? Kickers at Oregon are like big man with injury issues at the Blazers ... there's just something there.

Overall

- This team is VERY fortunate to be 2-0. We really mis Bo's leadership. SOMEONE needs to step up and become a vocal leader because a coaches words only go so far. SOMEONE has to hold the team accountable from a player's perspective.
- I don't want to worry anyone but the Ohio State game is only a month away

I am more inclined to lean towards Geoff Schwartz's film review & take on the defense.

Jeanty is LEGIT and had to work for his yards through 2-3-4 tackles. Yes we were out of position & gaps badly on his 2 long runs but guess what? BSU has scholarship players and a sound scheme. Tip the cap. 10 of his 25 attempts went for 3yds or less and that is NOT INCLUDING his 2x short tuddies. That was also with the DL having to constantly being aware of the threat of Koetter's lifelong love affair with the screen pass.

Look at their QB's stats:

With the ever looming threat of play-action (another Koetter staple, dude is still running the same concepts he ran as our OC with Graziani and Maas):

- 17/48 for 148 and a 57 QBR

I think the D was fine (that's what she said).

On Offense I think it might be between the ears. Chemistry and confidence is there, then it's not, then it's there and then it's not. I promise you it is more frustrating to the coaches and players than it is to use as Duck fans.

- Gabriel clearly doesn't trust certain Oline combinations and is in paralysis by analysis in identifying the pass rush with Pickard at Center

- Stein can't get in a rhythm with playcalling with because he's working with a QB who is playing scared every other play and 11 different Oline combinations

- Watching at home the difference in OLine chemistry + Gabriel's comfort was very stark and very clear with Pickard at C vs. Pancho at C. With Pancho at C holes got huge and Gabriel relaxed and had time to throw. The only thing that really derailed the Conerly-Strother-Pancho-Harper-Cornelius combo were some boneheaded penalties that had no real effect on the positive gains of the play (a ticky-tack holding/illegal formation, etc)

In Dan’s post game presser he said he would be coaching Whittington up on this during the week. Translation - Noah will be practicing handing the ball to Dan and doing gassers.

I didn't realize how spoiled I've been as a Duck fan for 35 years in regards to offensive line. I don't really ever remember it being this shaky.

Certainly have had games where they overwhelmed or outplayed, but nothing like this.

I think they found something with the Max protection looks with Evan Stewart when the defense is in 1 high safety or man coverage . He is basically always open against man defense.
