Pretty sure he isn’t a good coach, he has the ability to be one, but he started to believe his own hype, the team believed their own hype, and no one decided to play fundementals. The core play is horrible you cannot live off chunk plays, with a team fo this talent, we could have had a strong team. But Dan has not shown any player development in the last two years, just feeding off player talent. This year we saw player talent actually digress, that is bad coaching.

Fire the entire offensive coaching staff into the sun at this point.

I want to see a Ducks vs. Them of the whole offensive coaching staff being fired to epic theme music.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

I only see two wins for the rest of the season out of the next five…might be the first year Ducks are not bowl eligible…that would be sad to start off second ranked in the nation, huge talent, and end with dumping a turd on the field. And I see a lot of transfers if there is not a real change.

My bet is that the two winable games are tossups.OfaFeather wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:11 pm I only see two wins for the rest of the season out of the next five…might be the first year Ducks are not bowl eligible…that would be sad to start off second and end with dumping a turd on the field.

I think that's oversimplifying it a bit.OfaFeather wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:07 pm Pretty sure he isn’t a good coach, he has the ability to be one, but he started to believe his own hype, the team believed their own hype, and no one decided to play fundementals. Lanning is an elite recruiter. Elite hype man. Elite influencer / media manager.
Those are very useful skills to have as a head coach. And it brought in results.
He's not offensive coordinator. And neither is Mehringer.
Koa Ka'ai would not have gotten a position coach offer from any other P4 program.
The RB rotation has been goofy for years.
It takes the coaches half a season to settle on a starting OL.
This staff has brought in more talent than any in Oregon history--and that wins games.
But they need to bring in a few coaches that actually know how to coach football.

I think Lanning really missed an opportunity to insert Thomas at the perfect time today.

100% this. Dan got overconfident in his skills, he thought he could oversee offense and bring in young guys that he likes, and he’s finding out he’s not fit to coach offense and the guys he has are way in over their head and are completely inept and after this season will never coach in college football again.wepto wrote:I think that's oversimplifying it a bit.OfaFeather wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:07 pm Pretty sure he isn’t a good coach, he has the ability to be one, but he started to believe his own hype, the team believed their own hype, and no one decided to play fundementals. I’m sure Mullens will give him one more chance and what he does with that is up to him.

I just disagree. No, you do not kick the FG because of, math, you score the TD, they play defense and score another touchdown. The "math" is what had killed Oregon all year long. They only play to do EXACTLY enough to win, they have no killer instinct at all. Dan needs to tear the entire offense down and start over. Worst offense I have seen since Taggart.greenyellow wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:05 pmBecause they needed a FG, TD, and 2-point conversion to tie it. I agree with you that he is a great recruiter, and a good hype man, but I think you can only hype your actual performance. His press conference after USC was great, now if he could have backed that up with sustained performance over the the rest of the year it would have been great. But to follow up that presser with the trash performance against UCLA at home was just sad.wepto wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:14 pmI think that's oversimplifying it a bit.OfaFeather wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:07 pm Pretty sure he isn’t a good coach, he has the ability to be one, but he started to believe his own hype, the team believed their own hype, and no one decided to play fundementals. He had a chance this year to say to his assistant coaches, “you know guys, I know that you have all been with the program for a while, but with the talent that is returning and the amount of expectations on the team, we are going to get top tier coaching talent to develop the top tier player talent that we have brought in.”
Instead it feels like he fell into the Helfrich/Pellum pitfall and squandered the top five talent that has been recruited over the last three years along with top 3 NIL spend and I think it will have an effect going forward. Lupoi was one of the strongest recruiters and he is gone, I am curious to see this years recruiting class with this performance and without Lupoi.
I should have probably said, he is a good coach, I just don’t know if he is an elite coach. An elite coach not only recruits top talent, but develops them into championship tier team not a couple of good players and underwhelming performance overall.
