I saw that Kingston Lopa got some run at linebacker (including the hold on Warren that kept a drive going) and I'm wondering how much the younger guys got some run in the game. I didn't see if Terrance Green or any of the other freshmen DL got some playing time. Burch and Matayo were nonfactors in the game yesterday, but it remains Tuioti that makes me scratch my head because I think Purchase and Winston should be getting some of his snaps based on what we've seen in prior games.

Thank you, sir.

Some posts going around including from Holden and Reed suggesting a lot of the team, mainly on defense, had the flu on Saturday.

I love this rumor. It would explain the sluggish play on defense. I honestly thought they looked hung over or something for a lot of that game; was wondering if they were partying in Indy the night before. Also, did it seem the like there were a greater-than-normal amount of backups playing in the game?

Edit: Never mind, it was just Lopa and Ware-Hudson I noticed in the game slightly more than normal. The overall snap count posted above shows he actually subbed less guys than in the UW game.

To me, it appeared that Lopa was schemed into this game specifically as a bigger db to stick with their stud TE.

I got the flu on Sunday and wasn't able to even get out of bed on Monday and part of Tuesday. Influenza A is a beast. Credit to the boys if they were playing sick and still pulled it out!

I'm reading it the same way. Lanning commented ahead of the game that they were going to play younger guys with redshirt limitations a non factor, but it certainly didn't play out that way. Maybe it was the plan but the game was too tight, who knows.

Regarding the rushing defense, Crepea pointed out that 218 of PSU's 292 rushing yards came on just 10 carries. As bad as that is (from a Duck perspective), it also means that PSU averaged only about 3 yards/carry for about 70% of their rushes.

"Penn State’s 292 rushing yards were extreme. Losing a game when running for 8.3 yards per carry borders on the impossible. Yet when 10 of 35 carries account for 218 of those yards, it’s easier to see how Oregon managed to limit the overall impact of an otherwise ridiculous rushing output . . . Few teams will be able to pose that combination [Allen and Singleton] of a run threat."
