Oregon’s practices will remain closed to the public, including media, Helfrich told about 30 reporters Monday night at a meeting to discuss his policies.
Helfrich said the decision was based on the preference of players, security and compliance concerns, and strategic issues. There are also space concerns in the Moshofsky Center, he said, an issue Chip Kelly raised as well. - RM
Defensive tackle Ricky Havili-Heimuli has added his mother’s maiden name to his surname for his senior season. … Linebacker Carlyle Garrick, a 2011 signee who has yet to appear in a game, has taken a medical retirement. He can remain on scholarship but won’t count against the NCAA’s 85-player limit. … Walker will wear jersey No. 35. Receiver Chance Allen, a redshirt last year, changed numbers from 21 to 20, and outside linebacker Christian French switched from 82 to 96, last worn by Jordan.
Of course in our defense the back-ups play so he'll have his chances. I was hoping we'd get a few open practices either early or late in practice where not much is revealed because when I was in school and had a chance to watch, I always liked the 1 on 1 match-ups(well, unless Haloti was lined up ), especially the pass rush/block drills!
In other injury news, Derrick Malone continues to sport a sling, Rodney Hardrick wasn't in pads from what I could tell, and receiver Dwayne Stanford was apparently dinged up to some extent earlier this week.
With no live periods yet, some of Oregon injured players presumably have been full participants the last few days. Helfrich said safety Avery Patterson, offensive lineman Mana Greig and defensive lineman Jared Ebert, all of whom suffered major knees injuries last fall, have been able to practice this week.
Also good to hear. Patterson and Greig will be important this year.
