Btw here is an older article about him planning on Michigan being his last gig and a place to settle down at:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/10/sport ... .html?_r=0
That sounds promising, and Helf mentioned that Hoke doesn't want to be a head coach again, but wants to focus only on D. Sounds like he could be a really long term solution if things work out. +1!

And sorry for my (usual) ignorance, but is Hoke's last name one or two syllables?

Is this a serious question?

Latest rumor I saw floating around DT is that Pellum will retire shortly after NSD rather than stay on. If true, it could be the start of the turnover of the older coaches on staff. I'd say that in the next 5-10 years, if Helf is still around, he's likely going to have to replace at least half the current staff due to retirements.

Pretty much what I guessed was going to happen if true.

Yes. I've never been more serious in my life.

It's one syllable. Unlike the Virginia Tech "Hokies" or even "Nike", pronounced "Nye-key".
Side note: I really hope they don't start calling our defense "The Brady Bunch" once they get good.

Interesting Q. With Aiken making $500K as a DL coach, I can easily see Hoke getting around $750K.
I bet Aiken's nfl experience play a role in his larger than normal salary for his position. I don't think 600k is the max necessarily, I just don't have much of a clue ha ha. Maybe he'll start out around 500k with incentives. Just a thought.

Actually, I like that!

My first thought when I heard the news was "is this real life?" Between Yost and Hoke, it looks like we improved the coaching staff, at least on paper.
If Pellum does in fact retire after NSD, any guesses on who the new LB coach would be?

Thanks all

. What SD included in his post was the basis for my question, i.e., names/words where the final "e" is pronounced, to which one could add Monte, Apache, adobe . . . I think it most commonly happens with "loan" words, but for all I know, Hoke has a very non-English provenance.
In regard to the rumor that Pellum will retire after NLOI day, I note that Moseley, in his article about the Hoke hire (
http://www.goducks.com//ViewArticle.dbm ... =210643301), remarks that in the spring, Hoke will be "assessing his new players under the direction of returning position coaches Ron Aiken (defensive line), John Neal (secondary) and Pellum," obviously suggesting that Pellum will not have retired at that point. I realize it's pretty unlikely the Ducks would reveal such a plan at such a crucial point in recruiting.
Something I really liked about that Moseley piece, btw, is that he really seemed to do his research and consistently used yards-per-play stats, rather than total yards allowed, to illustrate both the effectiveness of defenses under Hoke and the ineffectiveness of last season's Duck/Pellum D

We've seen a "HOKEY" defense... I want to see what HOKE brings to the table.

He's asking if it's okie vs coke. But like others have mentioned, it's the later.
