It'll be good to have classes on money management and portfolio allocation/diversification for student athletes. The level of interest and attention on the subject might be different for them from when they didn't have much in the bank to when they have to actively manage or monitor 5-7 figures in NIL money now. It will build the right mindset and foundation for those that go on to become professional athletes and others that go into the business world.
There will always be the ones that will splurge and go crazy with their money. But for many other student athletes, its a great practical lesson in life. I just hope that there are more rules and structure to govern the NIL, so it doesn't get out of hand and create even more disparity.

It’s actually very relevant, it’s actual data not some random persons opinion. I don’t see anyone on here being hater regarding kids getting paid. They should be getting compensated for the money they bring in to their respective schools. I personally think 8 million for someone who hasn’t even stepped foot on campus is extreme, but if they get that more power to them. But you can’t act like there won’t be kids who completely waste their money and put themselves into bad situations. These kids who get massive NIL deals are banking on he fact they’re going to make it in the NFL, so do you really think they’re all going to be responsible with their money in college? Probably not, then what happens when they spend all their money, possibly get themselves into debt then don’t make it in the NFL? You can support the kids getting paid while also seeing the potential downfalls to giving an 18 year old kid millions of dollars. Not everything is so black and white.Duck07 wrote:It's also not relevant in any way other than being a hater.spacefrog13x wrote:that stat is pulled from a 2009 SI article, but I agree its probably significant.Quietduck wrote:NBA, NFL 60%+- broke ( or in financial trouble) within two years of retirement.

Having money management classes / lessons should be taught to everyone.alxtw wrote:It'll be good to have classes on money management and portfolio allocation/diversification for student athletes.
You could do 18 years of schooling to get a Masters degree, and not once discuss how: a mortgage works, interest rates affect loans or credit cards, student loans, stock market, compound interest etc

You are correct. Still doesn’t change the facts. People make those statements about people who win the lottery as well, but also don’t care how they spend their money. I personally don’t care because it doesn’t effect me, but it’s still facts backed up by data.Oregon Ownage wrote:Who cares how they spend their money? So damaged young people means nothing to fans as long we get our football team. Part of being adults, part of being human is caring what happens to others. Would you care if a coach had them doing conditioning drills with no water in the heat of summer as long as they didn't complain? If we don't help them deal with issues physical or financial we are part of the problem.

Re: Nico2Eugene?
I would guess that Bo is the starter and if he has one of his bad games, Thompson will come in and see if he's matured enough to be "the guy." Maybe someone else will be a pleasant surprise. I think Bo can take us where we need to go...Quietduck wrote:Ok back to QB's. Who wins the starter position ?

Very well said! Being a passionate fan, I sometimes find myself needing to re-calibrate to the human element of the game.Quietduck wrote:So damaged young people means nothing to fans as long we get our football team. As for the starter, I think Nix would be the safer option for the first few games and he is more familiar with the OC's system and SEC defenses. Depending on how our other QBs have developed, throwing them into the second game against the Georgia defense would be a tall task.

Re: Nico2Eugene?
It'd be really bad if Oregon couldn't sign one of the two 5* 2023 QBs on the West Coast and they both end up in the SEC. They'd then have to go hard after Eli Holstein or go with someone not rated as high but would be willing to sit and develop behind Thompson and/or Butterfield.lmduck wrote:Word is he will commit to Ole Missgreenyellow wrote:On to Rashada.
