I do wonder if something is happening on the NIL front, and if it is, is it that Oregon's funds are depressed or that others have successfully caught up.
I've been wondering if the economic uncertainty from tariffs (including Nike's requested exemption on imports from Vietnam) might be affecting Division Street's budget. Hard to see Uncle Phil being affected -- and I'm not sure whether Nike's profits directly affect our yearly NIL coffers -- but I could certainly see other donors pulling back until things settle down. But then it's hard to explain why other programs still seem to have NIL donations rolling in. (Unless it's because their chief donors aren't heavily connected to corporations that rely so heavily upon cheap overseas labor.)
Definitely odd that Oregon would suddenly start failing to stick the landing with recruits though.

There's just not a lot of room in our QB room right now. Our eldest statesman are RS Sophomore's. And the two Freshman behind them, Moga and KJ, look extremely promising. I understand everyone is upset Oregon is missing out on prospects at the moment, but be logical with me for a second. We have 5* prospects who can't even crack the 2-deep across various positions. This is what happens when we recruit at a high level for multiple years. With the Portal now in play, playing time is now more prevalent than ever. Curtis probably took a look at that depth chart and knew he wouldn't see the field for 3 years. Sometimes, that's all there is to it. Time to go after Lyons or take a year off from QB recruiting so the classes can breathe a bit.
Please explain why this logic doesn't pertain to Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, etc.
Georgia, ohio state, and the saban era alabama had the appeal of playing for the natty every year, playing for a championship coach that will get many kids into the first day of the nfl draft, and competing against the top recruits at every position advantage for them. So kids would be willing to forgo more NIL and playing time at other good, upcoming programs for them.
Until we are consistently in the national championship games and sending multiple kids to the first day of the NFL draft every year, we wont have the luxury of top recruits signing into our stacked position groups. (Its early now but CB and WR recruiting will probably take a hit this year with how well we ve recruited those positions and loss of junior adams.)

To some extent, I think this is nega-recruiting hitting the mark with recruits right now with pointing to the high-profile players we've landed each year in the portal (so congrats on your eventual transfer to Eugene!).
I also wonder if Oregon is just being smart with its NIL money too and keeping a limit to how much they'll pay relative to what they do get from the portal.

Summed it up beautifully.
So many Oregon fans think we have arrived. We're close, but we're still not at Ohio State, Georgia, or Alabama's level from a recent historical perspective. Just think about the draft this year -- we sent two players first round and THAT was a big deal to us. To those other programs, that's a walk in the park. Until we win it all and have 2-4 1st rounders each year, we'll be a tier below those teams. And that's OK. We're making great progress, but I think sometimes fans need a little dose of reality to where Oregon football truly stands in the pecking order when factoring in all things.
What about the recruits like Kodi Green choosing Washington and USC over us as well? Not like there’s a greater likelihood of winning a national championship at those schools.
I think the answer lies somewhere between both sides. Is the sky falling? No. Has the reputation of the Oregon football program taken a hit in the 2025 calendar year between the Rose Bowl blowout and the recruiting losses? Yes. Will Lanning recover the program’s reputation? Most likely yes.
I’m sticking with my prediction I made a while ago that this will be the worst ranked recruiting class in the Lanning era, but land either Cantwell or Iheanacho and win at least one playoff game this season and I could see that turning the reputation back with recruiting turn around.
Lose Cantwell and Iheanacho and miss the playoffs? Then Lanning has a big task in front of him.

Doesn't Kodi have ties or coaching connections to UW? Or maybe he saw how hard we were pursuing other OT's and got turned off? With Oregon taking a smaller class this year and going after the biggest prizes, there's a huge risk in trying to keep recruits on the backburner while trying to chase the 5*s. It's a very delicate balance.

I think that’s a good point, the coaching staff is probably weighing the risk of taking mid 4 star guys not knowing if they’ll pan out and transfer vs guys they’ll confident make it at a high level of college football when the portal is open to fill out the roster each year. They probably got out-bid for some of the 4 stars and yes Kodi Greene does have connections to Washington but there was a reason he was committed to Oregon for so long, that to me has been the biggest loss in the recruiting class, more than Curtis.
Agree, Greene was the loss that hurt the most. Hopefully they can circle back to him and/or land Cantwell/Iheanacho. OL is definitely a non-negotiable when it comes to recruiting.

Green is very close with the UW recruiting manager

On3 is reporting that Curtis is earning much less at Georgia than he would’ve at Oregon, I wonder how accurate that is.
NIL, and college football is basically a racket now. Of course nobody can quote NIL contract figures, and why would they? I wouldn’t put one cent on any article or writer claiming they know the situation. It is 100% on BS, zero transparency. I may believe his NIL has an escalator clause, as should all NIL deals. But I’m not believing his take at Georgia is way less than UO. SEC schools have ALWAYS paid much more than other conferences. UGA is not hurting for NIL money. Grain of salt article.
