Jay Johnson was fired from Wyoming and I agree about why the heck was he hired. How will be be an improvement over Meh? That swinging gate play was terrible. It developed slowly, blocks were missed, and it was just stupid. Stupid.

The Duck Territory guys said multiple times that Lanning had an offensive play sheet in his hands the last two games, and was more heavily involved in the offensive game plans.OrTDuck wrote:squintsdd wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 7:11 amI like to think that that was the play that did it, and every time they showed Lanning on tv all that was going through his head was "I can't wait to fire this dumb SoB"Phalanx wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 12:54 pm Was the swinging gate play where he ran into the teeth of the defense the final straw? That play was everywhere being mocked.
Unless Dan has stopped going to practice, I am sure he saw the offense working on this play during the week. These aren't the kind of plays you pull out of thin air from practicing a couple times in fall camp. Once you put it in the week's playbook, you prep it.
I think what’s being lost on the larger fan base is this was never just about Mehringer, and we’re kidding ourselves if we think letting him go solves all our problems. This whole situation is primarily Lanning’s fault. He’s the one who didn’t conduct a real search for an OC, promoted Mehringer, stayed in-house for almost every other hire, wanted Raiola, and overlooked/ignored the ongoing problems at OL.
Mehringer never should’ve been our OC and as others have stated, he’s a scapegoat. I have faith that Lanning will fix things but Mehringer wasn’t the root cause of the offensive issues. He and Moore’s injury simply exposed them.

Willie Taggart is a dick.

This is an interesting thread and if true, would explain Dan’s demeanor this season. Apparently Dan knew Drew was a problem as early as the second fall scrimmage

OF4L - I always appreciate all the opinions and the things you bring. I don’t always agree with you. As a parent of a current D1 athlete, I would caution against listening to 3rd party rumors from frustrated players. Young people, especially frustrated young people, say things in the hear of the moment, they haven’t developed nuance or emotional maturity and it turns into a telephone game of frustration.
I have a very hard time believing that happened under Lanning.
Lanning, Cristobal, Chip & Brooks would never let culture slip.
Taggart and Helf? Yes
Bellotti: it could slip under him but he would correct it immediately the next season.
