I don't see Chip returning, for ONE reason. He LOVES the NE. It's his home, like we talk about our coaches leaving to "Return home", yep, Chip is already home and having success. There is no upside for him.
Since when is Evanston considered part of the NE?

I can get onboard with the assumption that Chip being an east coast Philly area guy has a certain incompatibility with the PNW and the west coast in general. Being that he was recently at UCLA, suggests that a payday can overcome geographic suitability/unsuitability for a term that any prospective Oregon OC contract would encompass potentially. I do consider Chip as an OC a long shot, but I don't see it as out of the realm of possibility if Oregon throws money at it. Unless Chip pissed off PK, I think that his previous time and success at Oregon outweighs any objections of the donors that didn't get their ass kissed to their satisfaction when he was the head coach..

I wondered that too. Maybe he thought Chip was at Northeastern in Boston?
Otherwise I agree with the point: I don't think Chip wants to come back here, or he would have done so by now.

Northwestern is near Chicago, not New England.

Sorry for the confusion, NE wasn't New England, I ment to point out the (NE)northeast in general. I was loosely referring to the entire area. If we defined a coachs love for the "west coast", I would include California, Oregon, Washington etc...
I should have been more specific.

Yeah, everything looks the same under a foot of snow.
I dunno, Chip takes jobs all over the place. Off the top of my head: New Hampshire, Oregon, Philadelphia, San Francisco, UCLA, Ohio, Nevada and now Chicago. Maybe he will work with Mario in Miami next.

Would Musgrave be on the list?
Only if Dan wants to be fired. He’s garbage.

Bring Norvell in. Whatever it takes.

Feel like Norvell might get another HC offer. He had an undefeated season.

I want Chip. He's a proven guru, he never lost his edge, and despite his track record I think he'd be less of a flight risk given that he just recently dabbled in the NFL again. Plus, he's an Oregon legend. I couldn't think of a better Oregon coaching partnership unless they brought back Mike Belloti as an analyst.
Chip wouldn't have to recruit much in the NIL era, and Dan could sell the aura of Chip better than anyone else. He won a title with Ohio State just a few years ago and now he's killing it at Northwestern (of all places). Imagine what he could do here?
To me, that's a problem. I appreciate everything that Chip did in getting Oregon football on the map. He changed everything.
That said, why wouldn't Lanning want to hire an OC who's a proven guru AND an ace recruiter? That just makes so much more sense?
Also, I don't know Chip (obviously), but I wonder if he could handle being an assistant at a place where he used to be the head guy? He has an ego and I can't imagine Lanning wanting to bring in a potential problem. I was thinking the same thing about Mike Locksley, Mike Norvell, and others.
It's not just about hiring an offensive guru, it's also about finding the right "fit" in many areas, especially if you want someone long term.
Pros and cons I guess.

Yeah, if that candidate is out there, then great. Chip specifically though has repeatedly proven that he's among the most skilled offensive playcallers in all of college football. Not saying he's AHEAD of everyone else, but I don't think you could argue that anyone else is better than him, either. He's as good as it gets from an Xs and Os perspective.
I don't really care if we get Chip or someone else. But I want us to get the absolute best Xs and Os guy we can get. I'm sure we have guys on the staff right now who aren't stellar recruiters and yet we still manage to have a top-tier roster that's good enough to win a title. What we're missing though is a true offensive genius calling the plays.
Also I just don't see any ego issues. Chip is already an OC, and at his last job (won a title) he was also an OC. And when he left UCLA to go to Ohio State, he literally said he preferred just being an offensive coordinator, that being a head coach entailed too many responsibilities that he simply didn't enjoy.
Others have raised good points about him maybe not wanting to live in Eugene, but from a football standpoint, him being our OC makes seems like a perfect fit. We have the money and marketing to benefit from his skills without skipping a beat in NIL or recruiting. Just like Ohio State, and look how that turned out.

Chip burned the boosters in 2017 when he agreed to come back to be our HC then backed out last minute. Idk if you all remember but KingofDucks came on here and essentially gave us the play by play in real time (still the most plugged in person I’ve ever encountered in the ducks online sphere, btw). From people in the know, the boosters who would ultimately be paying Chip’s salary, would have to get over what happened in ‘17. And it sounds like they aren’t, currently.
That’s where the ego narrative stems from. Plus the obvious observation that Lanning would have to be willing to share the spotlight with Chip, which I’m sure he’d be fine with.

Cocaine Lanning & Big Balls Chip would be a match made in heaven though.
Whoever Lanning gets needs to be just as lethal so that his own killer instinct isn't a liability.
