Re: Blazers
Interesting, as the MLB to PDX has many more ‘investors’, than the NBA max of 25. Seems odd Phil Night was looking to buy the Blazers, but now doesn’t even want a piece. I’m assuming either he doesn’t dig Dundon, or he isn’t willing to be a minority owner with little input.

Re: Blazers
Or he's already earmarked where his money is going. I'm sure some caught the headline that Phil and Penny just pledged $2B to OHSU for cancer care.
But I would honestly guess it's the control issue.

Re: Blazers
That could be the case, but when the Blazers first went up for sale Phil stated he was no longer interested. It could be possible that after further consideration, his age might have something to do with itEverythingsducky wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 10:35 pm Interesting, as the MLB to PDX has many more ‘investors’, than the NBA max of 25. Re: Blazers
I'm hoping Phil jumps in and helps with either a new arena or a big renovation. I'd love it if Portland's premier sports venue were forever known as the Knight Center. That might actually make sense considering his existing commitments to revitalize the area around Moda.
He did just donate $2 BILLION to OHSU for cancer research though, so whatever he does or doesn't do is fine by me.

Willie Taggart is a dick.

Re: Blazers
Would be nice, but he won’t. He realizes Matt Arena could carry on for wayyyy longer than an NBA arena. Look at how long Mac Court lasted, versus the keeping up with the Joneses professional arenas. I’m putting my money on, that if a new arena is built for the Blazers, Matt Court will watch a FOLLOWING arena be built, before a new Matt Court. Would be a waste of his money, and he doesn’t waste money, especially if it isn’t his team. Phil doesn’t want his name in lights, he wants it behind useful projects.pezsez1 wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 11:47 am I'm hoping Phil jumps in and helps with either a new arena or a big renovation. Re: Blazers
My 2c on Phil is that he just donated the amount he was willing to pay for the team which is why he didn't bother to get into any type of bidding war because he had his price; so while the PGA Trust "won" I don't think Phil views it as a "loss" for himself.squintsdd wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 6:58 amThat could be the case, but when the Blazers first went up for sale Phil stated he was no longer interested. I want to say 20% can now be private equity/foreign ownership or roughly ~840M of the deal. One of the nuggets is apparently a 2.125B upfront payment and then another 2.125B at another date so if Dundon needed to, it sounds like he could only need as little as ~1.3B to make that first payment if he used that PE strategy.
