Somewhere I read he has the tough outside of the box mentality and intensity like his mentor Jim Harbaugh but unlike Harbaugh he has a likeable personality. He gets on to the guys when they don't play hard so I don't think we will see the crap we have been seeing lately, missed tackles, penalties and stupid mistakes. The more I read about him the more I like him, I never bought Chip coming back so I am not disappointed, the only other person on that long list of candidates I would have liked would have been Fleck but apparently some of the personality traits turned people off. He is young but because he is from the south I doubt he is with Oregon for the long haul, if he has success here and a SEC or big name ACC school comes calling he will likely leave. That was the nice thing about Helfrich, he would have been a lifer, but he just was not tough enough.

Defense ranked 120th to our 126th. Next year is going to be really rough. He needs to kill recruiting or it's going to get ugly.

Their dc when they had a top 50 defense the year before is now the head coach at Indiana.

That's why I'm more intrigued about who he hires on that side of the ball more than anything else. He can coach offenses, but we've had that.

USF defense was 46th in 2015, the DC from that season left to Indiana, so if he brings in the right people Oregon will be fine, also they only lost two games to Florida State and Temple (a good underappreciated team) and after that Temple loss he lit into his players and they haven't lost since, as long as his offense can outscore the other teams defense doesn't need to be great, just good. The difference between him and Helfirch and the current staff is he is tough and will inspire the kids to play tough and will actually teach the fundamentals, such as tackling. I don't think next season will be great but it shouldn't take long to turn things around.

I bought into the chip coming back hype. So this hire is kinda hard to take at first. Was a Fleck fan for awhile but
as time went on and a bit more research the fans here would have eaten him for lunch. The more research i have done
on Taggart is yes he is tough on his players when he has to. But he also relates to them very well. On sirius the other day
they talked about the Oregon Job. They said the 4-5 star african american players were hard to get to Eugene because
Eugene isnt the big city or its predominetly white. Maybe Oregons first african american head football coach can change
the sterotype.
Taggarts teams that he has inhereted have been dumpster fires. This is why his record is what it is. He has brought two
teams up. Taggart was not my first choice and maybe not in the top three. It is going to be interesting to see how this
fickle fan base feels about it. Its a big gamble by Mullens.
The biggest thing i worry about is who he hires or who Mullens hires as defensive cord. Taggarts defenses have been
less then stellar. He wont win in this league with a defense like we have had in the last two years. I hope that was adressed
by Mullens. It does surprise me that they couldnt get a top coach to come here. But we dont know everything that went
on. And we may never. Mullens is going to tell us this was their top choice all along. Which of course no one here will buy into.
So now the choice has been made. I will still be a duck fan through and through. Hope this board doesnt go deep into despair
and spin out of control. One thing about it is if Chip came back the board would be all warm and fuzzy and kinda quiet but now
we will have several monthes of things to discuss and argue about lol

I could now see Campbell stick around, if given the chance, for another year or two to mentor a young, up and coming, African-American coach. I'd love that. Bummed about losing Yost, though.

And my biggest worry is, the majority of fans think this is a, meh hire and so will recruits. This won't inspire any top tier recruits to pass on USC, Washington and Stanford to come to Oregon. So its possible we will fall back into the 2 and 3* recruits as the best we can pull away from the rest of the Pac-12 which will throw this program back into middle of the pack. Just uninspiring all the way around.

If they can find a great D.C., this could end up well for us.

That's not true at all. I mean if Chris Petersen can recruit, so can Taggart. Plus, recruits already like him.

And you guys do understand that our best d's under alliotti are majority 2 and 3 Star guys. And we were in the top 50 in d with said players
