I was pretty surprised to see Tennessee and Missouri out of the top 25 and Iowa in at #23. Probably not necessary at this point, but that's a nice little bump for Oregon's resume and all those propaganda memes on social media are going to have to be changed to subtract some ranked wins by various SEC teams - at least for a week before they put one of them back in to replace the N.Texas/ Tulane loser.

The bump for Alabama is the most egregious bit of doctoring this week. It's amazing how this kind of rigging is performed openly with zero possible justification for the marginal change. I note also that Oregon is once again set up to not play one of the five SEC teams being included in the playoff. Amazing how this happens every year, even when Oregon moves to the Big Ten.

lol the committee is explaining why Alabama got the bump is because they won a "tough rivalry" game against 5-7 Auburn in the final minutes.

They could've just said that it is to guarantee Alabama a spot in case BYU wins, because that's exactly why they got the bump.

Literally no other top 10 team would get moved up a spot for beating a 5-7 team by 7 points. More likely the opposite actually.

Mainly, I'm annoyed at the obvious lack of a level playing field. Secondly, I'm annoyed on behalf of those teams getting jobbed (BYU mainly, but then ND/Miami, even though I collectively care about those fanbases absolutely zero). What I am trying to bring to the fore is that I think ND and Miami are two of the most dangerous teams in the country, and if Alabama gets in over them, then Oregon has a better chance at a national title in my mind. That's the silver lining of the clear rigging, I guess.

If I am Notre Dame looking at these rankings, I'm thinking my team just got axed with this flip they did with Alabama. If BYU beats Texas Tech, Notre Dame is the odd man out, but what if Texas Tech wins? Now #10 is Notre Dame and #11 is Miami, the team that beat Notre Dame. Can the committee really choose Notre Dame with Miami right there?

It makes me wonder if the committee will be willing to cut Alabama if they pick up their third loss in the SEC championship.

**EDIT** Just checked Notre Dame forums and they are echoing these exact sentiments. A lot of them think they are out unless Georgia beats Alabama by a lot.

I don't like Notre Dame, but it is funny to me that they have been in the 'in the playoffs' column this whole time and have done nothing but win every week, and now all of a sudden they are out because SEC SEC SEC!

Don't worry, we'll get 16 teams to solve this soon so we can argue more 3 and 4 loss teams from the SEC deserve to get in. Especially once they go to 9 conference games and the league starts to resemble 7-5 more than 9-3.

"No way can you put in 10-2 Miami over 7-5 Texas!"

We might as well get rid of FBS and FCS and just have it all be division 1.

FCS wouldn't want that because they have a Playoff system that works for them.

What's funny to me is that we fall back on the same complaints every year no matter what adjustments are made to FBS. At what point do the masses realize that the basis for the complaints are a feature not a flaw, by design. Inequalities in the league structure and rules continue to exist only so they can claim that ambiguities require those who know better to decide which teams are best.

Every other sport at every level—including football—figured out a playoff system a long time ago. It’s ridiculous that CFB still can’t get it right. And the fact that we have committees and a broadcast company, who owns one of the conferences, running the selection process is insane.

This is obviously easier said than done (and why we’re stuck in the no man’s land) but if we want to keep the conferences then we need to go back to a bowl system. Otherwise actually form a single league with divisions where you have division winners and wild-cards in, just like other sports. Trying to make a playoff system work with the current conference setup is trying to make a square peg fit a round hole. It’ll never be without drama and controversy.

What the committee is doing with Alabama, for example, is egregious. Makes the entire thing a sham. Never mind that these SEC teams only play 8 conference games, essentially guaranteeing an extra win and one less loss on their record.

The broadcast rights are one of the biggest problems to solving this and we can't put the toothpaste back in the tube any more. Before Conference realignment you could have kept the regional conferences and gone for that style "football only" setup (call it the Union Conference vs the Confederate Conference) but nobody can agree on who should get paid what because they don't want to use the NFL's shared revenue model when it comes to those broadcast rights. That was at least something that Gordon Gee tried to address in his recent article but in lieu of an NCAA that works to protect all institutions and has effectively neutered itself decades ago, I'm not really hopeful that I'm going to enjoy the "product" year after year the same way I used to. I'm still a football nut, but I've been far more focused on HS in recent years than I have college.

I'm getting sick of the whining from these 2-3 loss teams. After the Indiana game, I felt that UO couldn't take another loss, and would not be bitching about missing the CFP if it happened. I think that mindset was common for Oregon fans. Every game was like a playoff game, and they came through like heroes. I'd be ashamed demanding a playoff slot after losing to teams like Florida or Florida State, or boasting about a win over Auburn.

I wouldn't be surprised if the winner of the B1G CCG finishes #1 in the CFP rankings and the loser is #2, at least if it's a relatively close game.

I shouldn't pretend that I can predict what the playoff committee is going to do, but I'm going to anyway, I guess.

With Texas Tech beating BYU, I think that locks Oregon in at #5 with a date with either Tulane or JMU (if Duke beats Virginia later). I say that because Georgia will stay ahead of us with a win, and I think that the committee would leapfrog Alabama ahead of us if they beat Georgia. Not a bad outcome at all for the Ducks.
