Re: Oregon State @ Oregon (3 game series)
This is likely the last we will see Anderson and Boer play as Ducks, Moen for sure as he's a senior, and Keudell and McGough maybe. How much would you love to see them go out with performances to remember and knock the beavs out of 1st place in the Pac-10. I know we're battling WSU for 8th (where OS was picked to finish preseason), but it would help some if we could play spoiler.

I'm not sure we see McGough leave since he's been pretty shaky this year and I'm not sure that he'd go all that high. I agree that we may be losing all three of our usual starting pitchers, which could make next season interesting as Horton basically tries to find a whole new rotation, save for Christian Jones.BillM wrote:This is likely the last we will see Anderson and Boer play as Ducks, Moen for sure as he's a senior, and Keudell and McGough maybe. I'm on record saying Kuedell and McGough will be back. I *think* Pulfer will be, too... Serna I don't know.

I could easily see Serna leave due to him being drafted (even if it's a low round) or transferring since him and Horton don't seem to have the best of relationships.oregontrack wrote:I'm on record saying Kuedell and McGough will be back. I *think* Pulfer will be, too... Serna I don't know.

Pulfer sounds like someone who enjoys college and college ball. If we have a leader, he's it. I've heard Coach Horton talk about Serna. Even though he has disciplined him twice in two years, he seems to understand KC and genuine affection for him. We went to the St. Mary's series when KC was still suspended and he was the first one on the field encouraging the guys.

Well, apparently I need to read the Register-Guard a bit better. It says point blank in this morning's edition that Pulfer has already decided to forgo his senior year and turn pro.oregontrack wrote:I'm on record saying Kuedell and McGough will be back. I must have skipped over that part since I didn't see that either. That would be a huge loss for the team next season. I wouldn't be surprised if Marder ends up at 2nd and they get someone else to be catcher.oregontrack wrote:Well, apparently I need to read the Register-Guard a bit better. You guys are right about Pulfer . . . damn!
From the RG
From the RG
Pulfer, who said he plans to bypass his senior year to turn pro this summer, broke his year-old school record of 14 doubles by ripping a two-run shot to center to give Oregon a 7-6 lead in the eighth inning. Pulfer is riding a 10-game hitting streak.

Amazing, but painful stat from the RG too . . . WSU has had 11 come from behind victories this year and their coach thinks they led the nation last year. UGH! We have NONE this year. If we had held onto half of the games we gave away this year, we'd be in all the postseason talk and the team wouldn't be demoralized (Pulfer's word). We were one strike away from a win on Sunday . . . too much to ask?

Re: Oregon State @ Oregon (3 game series)
This team has no veteran leadership to keep it from crumbling late in games. The pitching has been atrocious, which I'm sure has Checketts and Horton reviewing what they can do to fix it for next season with the guys that are coming back.BillM wrote:Amazing, but painful stat from the RG too . . . Re: Oregon State @ Oregon (3 game series)
In postgame interviews, Pulfer sounded like he could be the leader, but I'm not sure he was. I think you're right about senior leadership. It might have to come from one of our young guys stepping into that role. Don't know which one it would be.
Too bad about our pitching too. Some of our most veteran pitchers have been less reliable in later games to go along with our all-season-long unreliable bullpen. When we finally got our bats going, our pitching fell apart in too many games.
I know injuries are part of things, but it seems like we've had more than our share. That's got to mess things up too with guys in and out of the lineup, behind when they get back, etc.
We are really going to be young next year if we lose most of our juniors. But the good news is our freshmen got a lot of experience this year.
