According to a scout report today... that Masoli still continues struggling passing the ball downfield and is the one evident thing needs to continue working on until the season starts. Here is the link... http://oregon.scout.com/2/856150.html

Na Derris Ward at OL?

Interesting... Wonder if that could eventually hold up. Although you'd think it'd be better to try him out at DT. 6-5 270lbs, he'd fit the bill.

Wow, sounds like the defense is really stepping up, that's what I like to hear, especially at DT. Who is this Rory Cavaille kid? he's a senior? I've never heard of him haha And I'm glad a RB is stepping out of the shadows, that will be the most interesting race for #2 IMO. But regarding Masoli, I'm not worried. He's a hard worker who's obviously a very coachable kid. I'm sure Bellotti will have him hitting those passes in no time (knock on wood)
Are there any more vids of the practices? I love watching those.

when i read that, i immediately thought of Jason Smith, the left tackle from Baylor who'll be a top 3 pick in the draft this year. he originally was a TE and bc of his athleticism and added strength/bulk, he rocketed up draft boards as a bigtime OT. maybe CK sees NaDerris being able to do the same since his main strengths are his size and blocking ability. if Ward can pick up pass blocking, i think this is a great move

moving N. Ward to OL can only help his pass and run blocking skills. He'll be a great option in goalline situations next year at TE and this experience only helps him.

I agree, but I'm just curious to see if Ward stick at OL or eventually returns to TE..

Hm. A few other outlets say Masoli's downfield balls are way better this year...

Rory Cavaille is a backup receiver and plays all the special teams.. He was 91 last year.. Apparently he will be 81 this season. Kid is a very good blocker and saw quite a bit of time last fall because of his blocking skills in running situations.

He caught a TD pass in the Utah St. game last season if I recall, and I believe afterward it showed Sonny Harris's picture on the jumbo after the TD. Was quite confident it wasn't the same person that caught the TD at the time...

These scout practice reports are kinda bogus, IMO. Last week they reported the same thing about Masoli while Rob's blog & all the other outlets repoted the exact opposite, that Masoli was one of the best performers & was hitting everything.

My guess is that he is trying new things in order to improve his passing. Not too many people are very good at a new skill ... everything takes practice, and sometimes you have to get worse before you can get better.

Echo, that is probably the right call. I could see him trying to fit some throws over the recievers' shoulders and trying another approach that he is not quite use to. Hopefully when the spring game begins he is more consistent. Maybe he will be the complete quarterback package by the beginning of the season. (Well, except for height.)

That, and maybe the guy from Scout is mailing it in, instead of actually attending, and watching, the practices.
