Didn't we sweep three from them last year? How did they turn it around so quickly?

Vandy has always a good baseball program.

we did sweep them last year, but we were pretty good ourselves. they didn't have a vanderbilt-like season, but they did make the NCAA Tournament. they were really young.
kevin ziomek (3-0, 0.82) vs. jake reed (1-2, 4.32)
tyler beede (3-0, 1.45) vs. tommy thorpe (2-1, 3.12)
phillip pfeifer (2-0, 0.45) vs. cole irvin (3-0, 2.05)
another week, another opportunity to go up against a ridiculously talented pitching staff.
silver lining here could be that vandy hasn't played anyone near as good as us. they went 2-1 against long beach state, who has a traditionally strong program, but is struggling this year. that's about it. their stats look otherworldly, but they haven't played anyone. we're 13-4 all-time at PK against ranked teams. i think we win this series.

ot - What have you heard about getting Jones into the weekend rotation? Admittedly, he may need to work longer stretches in mid-week games, but he has looked sharp in the few innings he's had the opportunity.
Maybe be 1st in line for any long reliever duty?

Heard Jones has had some tightness is his elbow which is why he didn;t throw against northridge

Seems like we just don't have enough offense to beat the better teams.

seems like offense has been the trouble since we got baseball back

reed was outstanding other than the 2nd inning, which leads back to what i mentioned in the fullerton thread (i think). it's not like he's consistently getting shelled, he just has these innings (usually just one a game) where he throws up all over himself. and our offense isn't capable of coming from behind. a 3-0 deficit to us is more or less insurmountable.
healy's HR was one of the best shots i've seen in five seasons at PK. eddie rodriguez had one back in 2010 to dead center that still has yet to hit the ground, but there was no doubt about healy's last night.
horton is tinkering (dropping hambright down the order, swapping heineman/payne, benching garlick) but with pac-12 play starting next weekend (!) i wonder if we'll see some wholesale changes. really, though, i'm not sure what else we can do. no one, outside of healy, alto, and heineman, can hit the baseball right now. i think i would strongly consider benching hambright, moving heineman back to 3B, and putting one of the new kids in the OF. i think i'd also put garlick back the lineup (is he hurt? did I completely miss something?). i know he's struggling, but i trust him to play himself through a slump moreso than some of the other guys.

This lack of offense is getting annoying.

and a strikeout. It's embarissing how bad we are against good pitching we don't even threaten hardly ever
