JJ signs with Houston

Nice. I could definitely see him getting some playing time right away there.

Hate to disagree, but I don't think he'll ever see meaningful playing time. His best attributes are leadership, field vision, and stiff arm. Not one of those will get you all that much in the NFL if you lack speed or strength. His stiff arm isn't enough by itself to help him that much, field vision helps a lot in a CK offense but not against the Ravens or Patriots, and leadership will keep you on a team but won't get you onto the field. He's also shifty, but not shifty enough. I wish him the best, but I doubt he does much.

He had 1200 yards rushing, 7+ yards per carry and 13 touchdowns splitting time against solid competition. He might never be the featured back, but I think he can be a solid complimentary back.

If stats were everything the Heisman winner would be the top pick every year. I hope you're right, but...

He can be a great 3rd down back but definitely not an everydown back. Maybe his biggest strength that you left out, his hands. That makes him an ideal 3rd down guy.

Smith hopes the Texans solved the issue with two undrafted free agents — Oregon’s Jeremiah Johnson (5-9, 209) and Tennessee’s Arian Foster (6-1, 226), both of whom were 1,000-yard rushers hampered by injuries.

Johnson rushed for 1,201 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. Foster ran for 1,193 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior, but after undergoing knee surgery after the season, he was limited to 570 yards as a senior.

The Texans believe the free-agent backs fit in their one-cut zone system.

“We’re pleased with additions to our team,” Smith said. “These guys (draft choices and free agents) are going to add toughness and athleticism to our team.”

Im glad he got signed somewhere fairly quick, but the only thing that sucks about it is that Steve Slaton is basically the same kind of back as JJ. On a positive note Steve Slaton did pretty good for Houston last year.

Very good point, I totally spaced on that. You're right, that could get him on the field a little.

He could be a good return option as well. (Not that I think he doesn't have potential to be in the regular rotation).

If he would have returned kicks in college regularly he would have been drafted. So as a pro scout you cant count on him doing that which is why I think he wasnt selected.

He wasn't drafted due to a 'medical flag NFL Teams placed on him'.

Sounds like they do this so the teams don't have guys being guaranteed money if they are injury prone or something.
