It is a bummer we have potentially 3 bottom batters hitting under .200 right now. Would be nice if a couple of them could get hot during post season play.

Nice article. I think you go with your best in game 1. It's the postseason, and you cannot overlook anyone or take chances.

Nice write up!

Personally I'd roll the dice, start Reed Friday and save Thorpe for Saturday. Reed would be on a short leash and if he struggles, Johnny Staff coming in. Oregon has a lot of talent in bullpen, everyone up and ready to go.

I understand the concern with the hitting and agree it's brutal lower in the lineup with Hambright, Graham, Hoffman. I'd also go with Tolman at 3rd and DH Baumgartner.

Probably the a good idea. Not to look ahead, but Rice is going to be tough. We will need our best.

yeah, probably the right call. reed's our most experienced starter, and the only guy with any postseason starts. he went 2-0 last year.

It's a gamble, although we really don't belong in postseason if we cannot beat South Dakota State. Sure it's baseball and anything can happen, but it would be a huge upset if Oregon were to lose this game.

it's definitely a risk, but if horton was willing to let jeff gold get the friday start last year, you know it's something horton believes in.

looks like sdsu will be going with layne somsen, a senior who went 4-5 with a 1.92 era this year. 85-27 K-BB ratio, allowed a paltry .209 opponent BA.

always hard to say how those numbers translate to major conference competition, but they're obviously impressive in a vacuum.

Very impressive stats. Does his W/L record reflect their lack of offense?

Plus, if Horton put Thorpe out there and Oregon lost anyway, then it makes getting out of the 0-1 hole much more difficult.

rice/san fran tied 2-2 in the 9th.

rice wins 3-2 in 11 innings after the san fran left fielder lost a lazy pop fly in the sun. catching the ball would have sent the game to the 12th.
