P-Trib article on LGB...

Because Blount couldn't use Oregon's training facilities while suspended, he had to work out on his own. He admits "it was my responsibility to stay in shape like they wanted me to and I didn't. It was completely my fault, but I'm trying to get back into shape, as good as last season.
"Everything's going perfectly."
Blount recently reported that he had lost nine or 10 pounds, with another five or six pounds to go to reach his desired playing weight of 235.
"He's on his way. He’s destined for great things as a head coach," says Blount, a Perry, Fla., and Mississippi junior college product. "He's a wonderful leader, an inspiring guy. As long as he's here, I think we have a chance to go undefeated and win the national title or whatever."
This season?
"We have huge expectations," Blount adds. "We plan on exceeding what we did last season (10-3) and going undefeated."

CFN has him slotted as a possible 3rd rounder; the list is filled with a number of current year soph's not all of who will declare; I expect Blount to be pretty focused come fall;

Let's see... A big bruising, fast, back, who can catch the ball and get you 1000+ yards, while sharing carries with at least 2 other guys? He hurdles would be tacklers on occasion, while running over DBs like they were made of paper-machete?
Oh, my... ! He's from OREGON?
Don't take him... He played in the spread, so he can't run between the tackles!

It's like there's some sort of secret anti-spread union in the NFL. "Leach criticized us. They must be punished! Don't draft Harrell."

Yesterday on ESPN News I saw Kipers early list of best RB's for the 2010 Draft. Blount was #2 on his list. If he has a strong year, he will be drafted high.
He's big, very athletic, and very productive. The only reason JJ went undrafted was the injury and slow 40 times. It's not really a spread issue.

Blount has a body type very suitable for NFL. He's strong and very fast for his size. He will definitely go pretty high, even with a mediocre season. Especially with the NFL's new two back system most teams have adopted.

Re: P-Trib article on LGB...
Blount will need to show he can be the main back and be the work horse. Last season JJ was the starter and Blount came in for a quick change of pace to a bruising back. It's a lot easier to adjust to a big back when he starts or takes a lot of carries right away. When a speed back is in for a long period of time and then a bruiser like Blount comes in he takes teams by shock.
Not saying he is going to be bad, just saying hes gotta show he can be the man now. How long does that take? 2 games IMO

If JJ is able to work up the ladder and be a contributor, the other reason he will have gone undrafted is simply that those making the decisions whiffed it on evaluating him, injuries and 40 times or not.ncduck wrote:Yesterday on ESPN News I saw Kipers early list of best RB's for the 2010 Draft. I can't really put much stock in anything Kiper says, even if it sounds good for a Duck in some cases. He's only been right about half the time. Which is what one could expect from anyone making eyeball guesses.

You can't say he doesn't know what he's talking about because his mock drafts aren't perfect. The raiders screwed up everyone's mock draft.
His lists of who is a top talent and value picks are generally very good. That's what this was.
Say what you want about whether you like what he says or not, the guy is very well connected in the NFL and does give very solid bits of info.

I'm not saying that Kiper doesn't know anything or isn't well-connected. I'm saying that Kiper has been wrong as often as he has been right. So, it is of marginal value to others to put much weight on his predictions, given that they could most likely deduce their own predictions at a similar rate of success if they had the time (and the vanity) to do so.
