Should not be able to play in the National Title game with this schedule:

2009 Schedule/Results
DATE OPPONENT TV TIME (ET)
9/05 Charleston Southern
9/12 Troy
9/19 Tennessee
9/26 @ Kentucky
10/10 @ LSU 8:00 PM
10/17 Arkansas
10/24 @ Mississippi State
10/31 vs. Georgia
11/07 Vanderbilt
11/14 @ South Carolina
11/21 Florida International
11/28 Florida State

But I'm sure they will. How could they not go undefeated? They don't even play Ole Miss this year. With the SEC being down last year, and I don't see them being much better this year overall, it sucks that they don't really play anyone from OOC. Just because LSU played well in their bowl game does not make them top 15 material this year. Although all the writers are going to repeat it over and over....and over.
On College Football Live they had 'Florida week' or something last week. When it came to breaking down their schedule, they made no mention of how weak it is. They skimmed over the first two games to talk about the Tennessee match up like it isn't going to be a blowout of a bad Tennessee team.

LSU, Ohio State, ND, Florida all the big time schools are creating easy schedules because they can't afford to lose even to a good team. It's sad really. Fault of the BCS, penalty is too stiff if you lose, even to a good team.
Look at LSU's schedule from last year. Applachian St., North Texas, Troy all on the schedule from 08.

Which is why Ted Miller suggested that the Pac-10 get rid of round robin scheduling and add a 4th OOC game against a cupcake. We could do the same thing. Imagine if our schedule this year adhered to SEC standards (4 OOC games mostly against cupcakes and at home and then avoid the best conference team) and it looked like this:

Thu, Sep 03 Idaho
Sat, Sep 12 San Diego State
Sat, Sep 19 New Mexico State
Sat, Sep 26 California
Sat, Oct 03 Washington State
Sat, Oct 10 @UCLA
Sat, Oct 24 @Washington
Sat, Oct 31 Portland State
Sat, Nov 07 @Stanford
Sat, Nov 14 Arizona State
Sat, Nov 21 @Arizona
Thu, Dec 03 Oregon State

If this were our schedule, what would stop us from making a Nat'l Championship run?

USC would still stop us... To many people on the east coast there is USC... and then there is the rest of the Pac 10. Whether we play USC or not.. until someone ebats them out of the Pac 10 championship.. the rose bowl and the bcs.. has to go through USC.I still like the round robin and the integirty of the Pac 10. Instead of Miller focusing on changing the pac 10 if there should be change.. there should be change that to be qualified for championship can only have one cupcake on schedule.

I completely agree with you that change should be made so that other conferences are forced to play more difficult schedules instead of the Pac-10 having to stoop to their level.

My fake schedule was just an example of how it might look if we did stoop to the level of the SEC. Obviously, USC would have just as easy of a schedule, and they would more than likely be a candidate for the NC game over us, but imagine how many more teams would be eligible if they had easy schedules every year.

Well after us going undefeated a couple seasons, it would lessen the difference between us and USC no doubt. I just hate the direction college football is going with this........

The fun part is predicting which game UF is going to blow this year ... There's always 1!

Outside of LSU, all these games should be wins.

there should be some criteria for non conference scheduling. For example: Any team that finishes in the top 25 by the end of the season, must schedule a top 40 non conference opponent the following year. Or something like that... Obviously it won't happen, but that would fix this crap up.

I think it could be easier than that ... if wins against FCS schools did not count toward bowl eligibility, FBS teams would stop scheduling them

You could still schedule Tulane, Akron, Kent State, New Mexcio State, etc...

That still wouldn't solve everything. Florida could still manage to walk through it's non conference schedule.

I am sure the NC game will be Texas and Florida because they will both probably go undefeated with their pathetic schedules. I hope they both lose so a team with a decent out of conference schedule that is deserving of playing in a NC gets to play. This is why a playoff or something else is needed!

Florida hasn't played an out of state non conference game since 1991 i believe which was a loss to syracuse enough said...... I wont respect them or the SEC until they prove to me they are better and deeper than everyone else. Like last year for example LSu was average till the end of the season when the finally used a new qb, georgia overated, alabama lost to utah which shouldnt have beaten osu at home, auburn was terrible and tenessee lost at home to wyoming i mean come on. The only positive thing out of the sec last year was VANDY getting into a bowl game and keeping os's non bowl streak alive haha. Ole miss and florida were really good teams though. but as usual the conference as a whole was way overated. cant wait for the georgia tenn games in the future they will be huge for the reputation of our conference.

Check out Michigan's schedule. They play eight home games with one away game being at Michigan State. So they only leave the state three times. Their non-conf teams are Delaware State, Eastern and Western Michigan, and ND. Western and ND are a toss up for their hardest non-conf game. There are similar situations for Penn and Ohio State.

This is how the system goes. Large programs have cupcakes, decent programs schedule decent competition, and horrible programs schedule games that they will not possibly win because of the amount of money they can get from TV deals and large stadiums. We have to be glad that we are in the PAC10 and have respect for the game. The worst schedules in the PAC are Cal and WSU. Otherwise, all the other teams play at least one solid team which leave only two easy-decent games.
