Pac-10 Network?

Well it sounds like it's going to happen, which would be so awesome, in my eyes. One thing that caught my eye was the fact that the Pac-10 has a contract with Fox Sports through 2012, which is discouraging, but the Big 10 Network is owned 49% Fox Sports, 51% Big 10. Could we possible see a Pac-10 Network within a year?

Re: Pac-10 Network?
I think it would be a good idea but i do not see it happening. You have schools like USC and UCLA who get a lot of exposure without a Pac 10 network. ABC loves to cover both schools. The other aspect is the Ducks just signed a contract with comcast and I doubt seriously comcast would approve such a meal since comcast is mainly looking to make sure the in state duck fans can not see games unless they actually go to the game themself. I think a Pac 10 network would benefit the whole conference. If was at UCLA or USC and know you get lots of exposure as it is ask yourself would you want to share the wealth. My suspicions are probably not.

What makes you say this? That doesn't even make sense...what does comcast care if people attend games for? It makes sense they would want them to stay home and watch the games on their network! Am I missing something here?GoDucksIn09 wrote:comcast is mainly looking to make sure the in state duck fans can not see games unless they actually go to the game themself.

He probably has dish so he doesn't get the games on CSN. To be honest, I am tired of every one crying about not getting games that are on CSN. They pick up the games that no one else does and make it possible for the majority of us to watch the games. Stop complaining and get a friend with comcast!

That ridiculous faux-HD stuff, with the black bars on the bottom and top of the screen, is pretty ridiculous though ...ducksin2010 wrote:He probably has dish so he doesn't get the games on CSN. The PAC10 is sitting in a good place with this idea. They can easily copy the Big10 network's business model and adjust it slightly. It could be a pretty good deal for the conference, school, fans, and east coast reporters alike!

I would like to see a PAC-10 network that you can subscribe to on Dish, DirecTV etc. I have Dish and only get the games that are aired on FoxNW. I would like to see more Duck games on TV.

I hope this happens, and that it happens sooner rather than later. I get all of the games on Comcast Sportsnet, but their coverage isn't very good, and we all know that the East Coast never sees our games so this would help give them that opportunity.

Re: Pac-10 Network?
For now, I am a naysayer.
Folks in Big-10 country hate the Big-10 network. The BTN tried to strong arm its way into a basic package cable channel throughout the geographical area of the B-10, but that includes states like PA, IN, IA, that aren't solely B-10 country and so there was a lot of localized bitching about non-B-10 folks paying a "B-10" tax.
Upshot is that many cable carriers resisted and the BTN's viewing numbers and opportunities to be viewed are poor at this time. The side effect is that many of the B-10 games of interest to many local fans are no longer on ESPN or ESPN2 like they used to be, it's a case of hopefully having BTN or suck an egg.
What the new commish should consider doing is filling the void left by the B-10 on ESPN and ESPN2. Let ABC pick up the prime game as usual. Allow Fox to pick their one or two through the end of the contract, but hammer away at any contract stipulations with Fox about counterprogramming their games with alternates appearing on ESPN or ESPN2.
Only as the Fox contract expires do you examine a PTN.
The main drawback I see is this: A PTN is an effort to raise Pac-10 total revenue. Without expanding national interest in the league, who will be paying more cash to see Pac-10 games on a proprietary network effort? That's right--you will be doing the paying loyal fan--in the form of having to buy an extra sports package or a season pass.
