Autzen Stadium Renovation?

Post by justducky0 »

In a book I was reading it said the reason it chose the certain architect for the renovation of Autzen was because he desgined both the covered side AND a second phase for the other side to add more seats. Now does anybody know anything about this?

My understanding is we're going to add some more seats on the north side in a while, but not for at the very least 5+ years.

oh ok, I think that is what will get Autzen some respect in the South. they always brag about their huge stadiums. I think the projected number for the renovation total is 70,000 people I cant wait it will be sooo fun!!

It seems like one of these threads pops up like every 4-5 months, and it always gets me because I always think someone is about to say "One of my friends who works at the Cas Center heard..." but alas, it never happens. If the Ducks win a national championship this season (not a prediction) the north side will be renovated within two years, imo.

I've heard Kilkenny say that talk of Autzen getting renovated would be put off until after the baseball and basketball stadiums are done and then even possibly after Howe Field is renovated or replaced.

Which is the politically correct thing to say. But in reality, what foots the bill at the O? Football. Always has, always will. I predict within 3 years we will see work getting underway to expand Autzen to 70,000. $$$ rule at the O. You do the math. 15000 new butts in the seats all paying, oh let's say an average of $65 per ticket (3-5 years from now)= $975,000 PER HOME GAME X 7 home games turns into $6,875,000 in new revenue, just on ticket sales, not counting concessions and Duck Shop Sales. Talk about a cash cow! Trust me, it will get done and soon.

I'm all for expanding Autzen. But, they need to do something about the parking too. 15,000 additional seats and no parking structure will cause Eugene to explode.

I always thot you might be Pat Kilkenny....lol...
Wow, being a tad bit optimistic with the figures....$65.00 average per seat? 7 home games? It happens once in a blue moon....And then, filling all of those seats, every game, will require winning seasons, season after season, after season....
It seems that in the past few years, more and more of the season ticket holders (or at least the ones in my section) are either selling the tickets to the less desirable games to others on e-bay or giving them to relatives or friends...
The last thing that we need is to lose the "sold out every game" situation.....
Dont get me wrong....I am ALL for 70,000 rabid fans burying the opposition with huge quantities of noise....PROVIDED THAT IS WHAT WILL ACTUALLY EXIST....
The alternative isnt attractive...Having a half empty Reser-like atmosphere...
It isnt a pretty thought...

70k would be great, in fact just to rub the dawgs noses in it we should make it 74k so it's bigger than husky stadium; but with the current economics of our state I don't think it will be happening for a few more years. And about parking, what I've thought they should do is build a parking garage ala Seahawks stadium.

No, I'm not Pat, lol. As for the $65/seat average in 3 years, go back 4 years and see what you paid on average for a reserved seat ticket to watch the Ducks. Now double that and you will probably be pretty close to what the price will be in 2012. Those 15,000 new seats will all be reserved seats. I used 7 games because I think over the next few years you will see the O scheduling more like an SEC team and take advantage of those 70,000 seats and the revenue they will generate. The fact that season ticket holders are able to sell some of their tickets ( I do it on E-bay most every year because I live in Wyoming and can't make the games very often) without any problem points to the demand for those tickets. I agree with your last point, should something horrible happen and we suddenly start losing games and the stadium isn't sold out, the thought of gReaser stadium comes to mind. Personally, I don't think it will happen for a while. Sports at the O is a big business and has been for several years. It has become very expensive and will only continue to do so. As I always tell my family-"Good things aren't cheap and cheap things aren't good."
Right or wrong that's the way it is these days.

It has been planned for a number of years just like the last expansion but that one didn't move forward until 100% of the funds were in place and those funds quickly became available after the Ducks BCS win and #2 ranking so I think if the Ducks win another BCS game soon the funds will come pouring in and we can probably expect an expansion shortly after. With basketball, football, track and field and probably to a small extent baseball merchandise and ticket sales the Ducks are not hurting for revenue, throw in the boosters and the Ducks are good financially and could probably move forward with an expansion now but will wait until after the basketball arena and baseball stadium are complete. I can only imagine how loud Autzen will be with the additional seats.

I totally agree with you on that, although riding the bus is not to bad. Its cheap and pretty quick, although after the games its kinda a nightmare
