Excuses starting for Boise State-Oregon game

Post by echo31 »

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/ncfnation/0- ... -game.html

The "author" of this piece seems to think that we Ducks are making excuses as to why we will lose to BSU.
In the past couple weeks, wide receiver Aaron Pflugrad, quarterback Justin Roper and quarterback-wide receiver Chris Harper all have left the Oregon football program.

There have been articles about whether Oregon can run the spread despite being so thin at receiver and quarterback and whether coach Chip Kelly has enough with which to work in his first season.

Over on www.obnug.com there is a fanpost roasting the said author, Graham Watson. I believe she is an ESPN writer that covers the WAC (Miller's counterpart) and they don't even like her. It was a really poorly written article. The two references she uses to back up her assertion don't even bolster her arguement. The two writers in question pose rhetorical questions about the effects of all the defections. Sorry, last year we went into the game with our third string quarterback and ended up playing our 5th string quarterback...hardly comparable. She is ever so subtly pointing out that last year's quarterback issues weren't that big of a deal, which is the general consesus of Bronco Nation. It all plays in our favor.

I don't see anyone making excuses. When actual things happen, like players leaving a program and leaving us thin at some positions, isn't talking about it an "observation" rather than an "excuse"?

I still think the Ducks blow the doors off the Broncos, "excuses" and all. How's that?

I wanted to beat BSU before I read that poorly written article and the ridiculous comments (Mostly from Duck haters) below it but now that I have read the article and the comments my desire to win against the Broncos has grown even more, which I honestly did not know was possible.
I used to like BSU, especially because of Petersen and Wilcox, but now I have absolutely no respect for them because of the way they allow their players to play. Now I know late hits and even illegal hits happen, but after watching them play over the past couple of years I can say that the types of hits the BSU players unleashed on Masoli and Dickson are not as few and far between as they should be and that reflects poorly on not only the players, but the coaches as well IMO.
Another one of there posters said that if BSU was in the Pac10 this year that they would finish right behind USC and even the game against USC would be a close call  I mean what are these Bronco fans smoking? That Blue field must be messing with their heads.
My biggest worry going in to the game is that our guys, especially Masoli, will be to pumped up to destroy the Broncos and that we will get off to a slow or sloppy start. Hopefully i'm wrong and our guys come out more focused than ever and they execute our gameplan perfectly, but until I see our guys settle in i'm going to be an anxious, nervous wreck. Football season can't get here soon enough.

There's a difference between an "excuse" and a "reason"... Having to play our 3rd, 4th and 5th string QB's in last seasons game is a reason we lost the game...

I don't even care that it was an excuse. I just like to enlighten BSU fans to the fact that drawing comparisons from last year's game to this year's game is just plain silly. The sentiment that "we beat you in your house, so, of course, we'll beat you in our house" is naive. Well, you beat us with our 4th & 5th string quarterback last year and, more than likely, you'll have to beat us with Masoli, one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Our depth, from transfers, will only have an effect if we sustain some injuries throughout the season and that becomes a factor towards the end of the season. It could be an excuse against OSU.

I wonder what excuse the Bronco fans will come up with when the Ducks bury the Bronco's asses into that smurf turf? :D

I have to admit, I want the Ducks to pummel Boise State like one of those MMA fights where we just take them to the mat and pound there face till they bleed blue then go unconscious.

The Ducks will pass early, with the first 20-30 plays scripted, and then run it down their throat after taking a big lead.

Hopefully they do like they did against the Beavers last year and keep it up throughout the game and not like what they did against Arizona!

Since our game against them is the first game of the season for both teams, no one will be able to blame the injury bug for costing them the game. What gets me riled up is that just about every BSU fan i've talked to acts like their dirty shot against Masoli had no effect on the game and that they won straight up. As a former player I know that injuries are part of the game, but when someone sets out to injure someone on purpose that is a different story. Now I can't say with 100% certainty that the DB that hit Masoli intentionally set out to take Masoli out of the game, but when you couple that hit with the other flagrant hit later in the game against Dickson you start to see a pattern of more than just unsportsmanlike play, but dangerous and even possibly deadly play. It's the BSU coaches job to put an end to those head shots and I personally have lost a lot of respect not only for there coaches and players, but some of there fans as well. I just hope that we go in there and demolish them on the smurf turf. I think it might take a series or two for our players to get adjusted to the bad Acid Trip of a football field the Broncos play on, but after that I fully expect to see White jerseys, which im sure well probably wear, running all over the field with the "Little Boys in Blue" chasing them.

I had chalked the two late hits at the Duck game up to coincidence. Then I caught a few other Boise State games later in the season and the same type of thing was happening.

Still difficult to believe that they would coach their players to do it on purpose. But, I'm convinced that they didn't do enough to prevent it. I've never seen any other program get called for so many late hits.

Does anyone think that TJ Ward might look to earhole Moore? I am wishing for it, but during the play and not a full 3 seconds after....

I have a feeling Zac Robinson's hit from Ward will look tame compared to what he is going to do to some Boise State players. I am predicting it now! :P
