Yeah i know its only one game ...blah ...blah that being said I'm not asking or wanting a QB controversy, but if things don't go any better at the first half of the Perdue game, why not put COSTA in? I appreciate what Masoli has done for this team, but his reads, decisions, and much of his throws were not that good. So, although i stick by Masoli as of right now, if this continues into next weeks game, its time to give COSTA a chance!!! He knows this system as well as anyone! I still hope we can redshirt Thomas this year!

I gotta think there's a reason we didn't see Costa last night for at least one series. Possibly his health isn't as good as reported.

I agree with Slammer...definitely not time to give up on Masoli, but his play warrants close watch next week. If he doesn't pull out of this funk by the first three series against Purdue, I would expect to see Costa.

I felt it would have been worth a shot to play Costa in the 3rd quarter... The game was still in reach, however tenuous that reach may have been.
What's controversial about that?

I just hope it doesn't take Masoli several games to get going like last season. It might not be a bad idea to have Masoli and Costa play some every game.

The O-Line play last night was the worst I have seen since 1991. Costa will get his chance unless the O Line improves dramatically. Masoli is not going to beat ANYONE with his arm, unless there is a serious threat of running the football successfully. Since Oregon could not run the football, that allowed BSU to sit with 5 DBs the entire game. Masoli just does not have the accuracy and the touch to pick apart a defense in pass coverage. Costa is clearly the better passer and probably would have been more successful last night, due to the situation. If the line improves over the next few weeks and Oregon can run the ball, then Masoli should be the man. If not, CK is going to have to put Costa in if he wants to win games.
My prediction: Oregon 1-3 after 4 games with Costa getting his first start against WSU.

I hope that prediction doesn't come true, hopefully Greatwood is just a few practices away from the line having everything straightened out. I know it's a stretch, but still entirely possible

The backup QB is always the most popular guy...I'm definitely not ready to give up on Masoli yet.

Costa is the better Qb ask anyone that plays for the ducks. With that being said we owe Masoli
big time and need to show some loyalty but if by the end of he Purdue game he isn't playing
better we need to make a change. masoli looked like he was looking over his shoulder for the
hook last night never a good way to lead the team.

I agree with what your saying. I think Costa probably will get some work in the Purdue game, but I have a hunch the coaching staff is probably looking at Costa playing only if Masoli gets hurt.

Why? If Costa is the better QB, shouldn't he play? Wasn't that the reason Masoli played over Roper. Didn't seem to owe Roper any loyalty. How about A.J. Feeley? Harrington was the better QB, more because of leadership, so he played. Costa was supposed to be the next great QB at UO until the injuries. At this point, hope I am wrong, but I don't see Masoli as having the leadership ability. As one reporter said; last year he didn't have to. Someone else is going to have to emerge as team leader. If Costa has that intangible, he should be playing for that reason, especially if he is the better QB. Roper showed more leadership last year than Masoli, even from the bench. He was usually the one encouraging and praising players returning to the bench. On at least one occassion he was apparently giving Masoli instruction after patting him on the back for a great play. Even if he wasn't the best QB, we may miss that leadership before this season is over. I did not see much of a team on Thursday; just a bunch individual FB players. BSU, on the other hand, was very disciplined and well prepared. My opinion.

Kinda like Darin Thomas with Boise St. last year. It took a solid passing game to get back in it.

Doesn't matter who was in at QB, the Oline was that bad. You CANNOT argue with what Masoli did last year. Those were some amazing performances. The main difference from last year? The Oline. Until they play better, nobody will look good at QB.

I think you can. He had some pretty sub-par games to go along with his great ones.

The Oline was awful, but Masoli had 2 turnovers that were his fault and could have changed the outcome of the game. He also had several passes that were thrown into the ground or way over receivers heads. It was like deja vu for the first several games he played last season. I'm not ready to start Costa against Purdue, but Masoli didn't play well at all. Toledo's qb threw for like 470 yards against Purdue this week. If Masoli cannot put up good stats against Purdue, it's going to be a long season.
