Make a Statement Against Utah

Post by DmoneyDuck »

So far, they have looked much worse than us against lesser competition. Utah State and San Jose State both pushed them a little too much. The game is at Autzen and hopefully the penalties will lessen and LaMike and Barner get the bulk of the carrier, the OLine mans up, Masoli keeps making the right read on the zone read, and the Defense pressure the new and inexperienced QB.
Utah may be ranked and riding a winning streak, but this game is a must heading into the Cal matchup the following week.
Obviously, I'll take any win, but I'd love to win by 14+.

Utah has struggled so far, particularly against San Jose State but part of that I think is they were probably looking ahead to Oregon and the coach also said he was only going to use a third of the playbook the first 2 games as to not show much to Oregon. I think Oregon will win but it will be similar to the Purdue game. Oregon's D really needs to buckle down on 3rd down and the O-line really needs to learn to block better and Masoli needs to get comfortable with passing the ball. It would be great to see Oregon get back to running the option read to perfection and put up a lot of points against the team with the longest win streak (16) in the country. I sure hope they don't look ahead to Cal.

I would love to see an Oregon win as much as anyone on here but quite simply.. I do not see it happening. Too many things I see when it comes to Oregon that need fixed before we can compete. The O line.. the consistency on defense the3rd down conversions by opposing teams and the list goes on. I think Utah wins the game and the cal game will just be ugly.. plain and simple.

Oregon was lucky to come away with the win against Purdue. Let's just put it this way: If they play like that against Utah, they will get smacked. I wouldn't underestimate Utah just because of their first 2 games.

Utah was getting smacked a little bit, though they won, by far weaker competition than Oregon. I wouldn't underestimate Utah, but I also wouldn't underestimate in Oregon. There are some troubles, but this team is getting better. And it's not just our O-line that's having trouble, it's the fact that the opposing linebackers immediately shoot gaps when they see the initial zone hand off. The one thing we saw from LaMike and Barner in the 4th was that they started cutting back and taking advantage of the over pursuit. This is why J-Stew and JJ were so good at it. If they keep clicking and Masoli keeps making things happen, we will get this rushing attack back. Ducks take this game.

Agreed..We definitely have some things to work on..but so do our opponents...Seems too many people are commenting the they hope Oregon doesnt overlook Utah in preparation for the Cal game...Yet, those same people bring up the Cal game in the next sentence..
Its one game at a time....Utah is next...and what follows, follows....I am a firm believer that any Pac 10 team can beat any Pac 10 team on a given day....Predictions mean absolutely nothing.....Its the end score of each game...How many wins vs. how many losses...
And that, Duck fans, will not be determined until the end of the season....ONE GAME AT A TIME...

I hope we will make a statement and win against Utah to end their winning streak. To be honest, Cal will murder us If we contiune poor tackling like yesterday, Best and verneer will run all over us.

Agreed, although I think it took a bit more than luck to beat Purdue.

Anyway Utah has the biggest winning streak in the country. And after being embarrassed against BYU 3 years ago and then BSU earlier this season, I will no longer underestimate non BCS opponents, especially ranked ones!

With the game being played in Autzen, I'm a little more confident about the game. However, we have to stop dropping passes and fumbling the ball to beat a team like Utah. It should be a great game!
