The recruiting ranking guys from 247 are at this one. It’s part of how Canton Kaumatele had so much hype, he was dominating practice. Last year Kayvon was embarrassing every top OL in the drills.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. But a fun one to watch. ESPN also does some televised drills leading up to it - one year Jaylon Redd won their fastest man award.

Really too bad about Canton’s injury issues. He had the goods, but not the health.GoDucksTroll wrote:The recruiting ranking guys from 247 are at this one. It’s part of how Canton Kaumatele had so much hype, he was dominating practice. Last year Kayvon was embarrassing every top OL in the drills.

Actually, if I remember it right, Canton had one rep that went viral on social media and people marveled at his stature, but at least one scout described him as "robotic" in his movements.GoDucksTroll wrote:The recruiting ranking guys from 247 are at this one. I think one of the biggest things scouts and coaches alike miss on evaluating linemen is that they overvalue stature & physique and undervalue athleticism. I totally understand how one could get enamored with the eye test, but that sometimes results in Canton Kaumatule and Zach Okun. Better off looking for other attributes.

I don’t know as much about Okun because his concussions never really let him have a chance.StevensTechU wrote:Actually, if I remember it right, Canton had one rep that went viral on social media and people marveled at his stature, but at least one scout described him as "robotic" in his movements.GoDucksTroll wrote:The recruiting ranking guys from 247 are at this one. But Canton’s problems weren’t lack of athleticism/explosiveness or just injuries. He had no shortage of athleticism, but he didn’t try hard. It came down to effort. Had a hard time with the playbook, didn’t give full effort. The staff needed bodies on the DL so they thought playing him would help light a fire under his ass. But if you don’t try six days of the week then you’re not going to be worth anything on Saturday.
You’re right in that he did look robotic. Any chance to fix him with coaching disappeared with his injuries. Very unfortunate. To me he is the biggest bust in program history.

I didn't love Canton's tape coming out, he just didn't look explosive to me. I actually like Jaylen Smith's tape from this year a lot better. He looks far more explosive and can add 15-20 lbs on his frame.

It's now looking like Manning won't announce his decision until January 9th:

Why have a "signing day" if he already "signed"?

Why have a graduation party if you've already graduated? Why have a birthday party if you're already born? People like to celebrate things.laxattack22 wrote:Why have a "signing day" if he already "signed"?

Normally at a signing party, you are physically doing the signing of said document before faxing it in to the University. But at an announcement party, you do your announcing of chosen school. I guess what I'm trying to get at from my previous comment which was maybe lost in the brevity of it, was that it seems a bit odd to have a "signing party" given that we're all under the assumption (from his own previous comments) that he already signed with with a school (allegedly us) and sent in his LOI to the University already. So my point was just from seeing that post raised an eyebrow or two for me...

Another couple of potential recruits for this game are DL Jayson Jones and OL Marcus Henderson.

Manning has had great practices. Dude is explosive, has great hips, and has very long arms.
