Give us your height and weight.
dd10snoop28: 5-9, 200lb
lukeyrid13: 5’6 160
the goat: 5'11 3/8", 181
Craig: 5'9" and dont worry about it lol
bellsduck: 6'3" 215lbs
offtheheezy: 5'11" and 210lb
UOducksTK1 commentary: We got 5 guys at 200+ pounds including myself (I'm 6'3" 215 lbs), so this league has some meaty dudes. I'm not too optimistic on the dunk question next... haha poor craig, I'll trade you my 2nd rounder if you message me your weight.
Can you dunk? Or even touch the rim of a 10 foot hoop?
dd10snoop28: No, never been able. Probably closest was like 4 inches. Sad…
lukeyrid13: I’m 5’6 and find this question offensive
the goat: I wish. On a good day I can just smack the side of the rim.
Craig: Currently? Hell no lol. When i was younger sure.
bellsduck: Not for the last 10 years. Too many leg injuries. But I can still shoot with the best of them.
offtheheezy: No, and no. I have only ever touched the rim of a 10 foot hoop once in my life and my hand ripped from hanging on to the rim
UOducksTK1 commentary: LOL @ dd10snoop28 and lukeyrid13. Interesting we have a few dunkers, bellsduck seems to have the edge on most here. I could dunk a volleyball or any ball I could cleanly grip, but never a clean basketball dunk. I empathize with the smaller guys.
What's the last thing you had for dinner?
dd10snoop28: Fish, rice, yogurt and other Persian things for day before Mother's Day. Glad to be a Persian.
lukeyrid13: Grilled chicken and avocado
the goat: Sauerkraut Ramen
Craig: Pasta
bellsduck: Pollo Guisado (Puerto Rican Chicken Stew)
offtheheezy: Leftover pizza & chicken wings
UOducksTK1 commentary: Puerto Rican to German to Persian, good variety team! offtheheezy and craig with those high carb dishes, no shame! I had mostly ice cream and brownies for dinner, so ya'll are still batting better than me.
If you could swap your entire roster with another team, who would it be and why?
dd10snoop28: Well my answer before FA would have been entirely different. I think Blazers had the best roster for the current and for the next few years with Sampson + MJ as a sweet core. Don't think they are in the top 5 of the most desirables roster now after FA though. Sorry lukey. Though I have to say that I have had bad luck in FA since the beginning of the league so I don't feel as bad. Plus the blazers won the championship. And who can deny the Nets' GM ability to market the city/team??? See Vlad. Hehe. Cavs would have the most desirable team last year (before losing Tucker). But with Hakeem expiring and Tucker gone, don’t think they are a top choice.
If I had to choose, I’d say the Celtics are probably #1 followed closely by the Mavs. Mavs are in a position to win now but Celtics have a ton of pieces to be able to move for a star. Pistons have a solid roster too and I like their direction. There are probably a couple of rebuilding teams with sweet picks but I don’t really follow the owed picks thread that closely so apologies if I miss a team with good youth + tons of picks. Lakers/Knicks are in win-now mode but I'd like to start with a team with youth to work with to build my team.
lukeyrid13: The Nets because Ralph Sampson.
the goat: If you asked me a few seasons ago, it'd be the Rockets. Now, maybe the Hawks? Bowie+Tucker is a good duo to build around, and they got plenty of prospects to package for another game-changer.
Craig: Probly the Blazers just to have MJ. He might be ready to blow up.
bellsduck: I feel like Cleveland is the automatic answer here and I'd probably do that. Olajuwon is a stud, Johnson is still young and signed long term. If Harper could just score a tad more. My 2nd choice is probably a surprise, but I like the Pistons. Magic, Mailman, the new import, and Turpin holding it down in the middle. If both teams can manage their salary cap issues they both should be good for a while.
offtheheezy: Pacers or Nets. My favorite part of playing in sim leagues is rebuilding & drafts - I think both teams are set up with a high-tier stud and a lot of picks in the coming years and will have a ton of fun in the upcoming drafts.
UOducksTK1 commentary: I wouldn't. lukeyrid13 sounds a little bitter in that response. Interesting a few GMs changed their response because of the whack FA we just had. No consistent one team that GMs would swap with. Goes to show there's no clear favorite to win it all, and not one team tanking exceptionally harder than all other teams.
The Cavaliers will win ___ championships in the next decade.
dd10snoop28: *Didn't fill in*
lukeyrid13: 2. Hakeem will be a beast but for right now they need 1 more piece I think
the goat: Under 2.5
Craig: 1-2. They lost DJ but they're still super good if they can retain Hakeem.
bellsduck: 2
offtheheezy: 1. I think this year and then it'll get tough. I think if they retained Tucker & didn't have the Hakeem injury they'd probably already have one. Every year from now it'll be harder since Hakeem will get the max (from Cavs or someone else), and Harper/Johnson will already be into their max deals. Not a ton of cap space to improve then. Unless I misunderstood this question and this question meant the real life Cavaliers - then 0 for the real life Cavaliers (fan of Sexland though)
UOducksTK1 commentary: Offtheheezy finding any opportunity to take a jab at real life Cavaliers. I'll also go with 1.
Who are the top 5 GMs in DASL?
dd10snoop28: I’m gonna give a top 5 that does not include guys who have a lot of experience in FBB (Zyme, ownage, myself, lukey, TK1… I might be missing other experienced people) so these are my top 5 in no particular order:
Boom – he is a vet and always seems to build a contender. He has made some really good moves and some questionable moves in this version of DASL, but overall a solid GM who usually has his team competing for top spot in the conference. Although he built a solid contender the last 2 years, I think he went too hard on competing for old guys while trading future picks. But I applaud anyone making a run at a championship.
Briezy – maybe some of it is luck with the lottery (Hakeem) but he has drafted well and built up a contender consistently the last few years. Unfortunately, he has had a tough go in FA. But top GM in my eye.
Drbradbass – maybe a surprise pick for some, but I never thought the pistons would be able to build around Magic. Partly because I didn’t think he was someone that could be built around (see stats in his first year). But like Magic, the pistons have built up their roster each year. Impressed by what they’ve done.
Bellsduck – the Jazz have had some seriously talented teams throughout DASL2 but haven’t seemed to be able to put it together, but not for a lack of effort by bellsduck. I remember when he had Parish/Mchale/Bruno/Marques/Geiger (that was before Marques tanked too) as his starting 5. It’s funny because I always get the impression that the Jazz underperform with their roster, but I think the opposite happened this yr. Bellsduck was able to squeeze out all the talent from their roster and they got the Conf Finals because of it.
Thegoat – he’s built a championship contender for the last 2-3 years and they will be a contender for 3+ more years. That Larry Smith contract is gonna hurt though!
lukeyrid13: Zyme
UODucksTK1
DDSnoop1028
OregonOwnage
Craig
the goat: snoop, Craig, lukeyrid, offtheheazy, and ME (sometimes)
Craig: Hmm...Ownage, TK, snoop, Sky, myself? Lukey, Zyme, goat, offtheheezy, Briezy pretty solid too.
bellsduck: In no particular order, cause I don't want to make enemies for trades down the road -
Skyhooker, dd10snoop28, Oregon Ownage, Craig, Cellar-door
offtheheezy: I've only been here since the 1983 season, so have small sample size. From a team building approach, my top 5 in no particular order would be Suns, Blazers, Jazz, Nets, Mavs.
Couple of reasons - yes, many of them have had plenty of success in the postseason. But to me the biggest indicator is mainly that I feel all of these teams have committed to contending or rebuilding at any given moment in time, without overly mortgaging their future. A big thing for me is when teams know when to liquidate their assets and start their rebuild or even a re-tool, and even while contending a lot of these teams were able to always keep their picks in hand so that they can rebuild at any time. The place I hate being at (which I think my team is at right now a bit) is too good to get top tier prospects but not a legitimate contender.
Blazers tanked for multiple years in the beginning & despite some horrible FA luck was able to get a championship and also could have had a dynasty with a little bit more FA luck.
Suns, Jazz, Nets, Mavs I feel all recognized when their squad wasn't able to legitimately contend with the given construction, so they all made moves to either kickstart their rebuild and get value out of the assets while they still could. (Suns with Dr. J/DJ, Jazz shipping out Parish & McHale, Nets with Vlad, Dudley, and striking gold with Sampson, Mavs shipping out Ford and coming out with Ewing). They also tend to keep their 1sts even while contending so they could choose to rebuild whenever they'd like.
A part of this is also knowing who to give out max contracts to and who to limit the years for. I feel like all the teams have done this well to maintain good cap flexibility.
UOducksTK1 commentary: Respect to dd10snoop28 not going with historical performances from past leagues. dd10snoop28 (4), OregonOwnage (4), Craig (3), lukeyrid13 (3) are the ones with three or more votes.
Who is your favorite & least favorite GM to trade with?
dd10snoop28: Grizz GM is a favorite. He has eneeeergy. I don’t really know off the top of my head. I think cellar-door is a good person to trade with.
Lease favorite? Shoot, I don’t know. I’m sure someone has done me wrong in the past but I wouldn’t remember.
lukeyrid13: My favorite right now is OfftheHeazy. He is rational and always provides great discussion no matter what the deal.
Least favorite is the Nets because I hope Ralph Sampson gets a bruised ego and misses the next 6 seasons
the goat: I like dealing with the offtheheazy b/c he makes reasonable offers and does the legwork
Don't have a least favorite but I dislike receiving poopoo offers with no room to negotiate
Craig: Favorite-probably offtheheezy he's pretty chill. Least-dont really hate dealing with anyone. Ownage a stingy MF'er tho so i'll say him lol
bellsduck: I guess in 2.0 I've made the most trades with Boom so he's up there. Lukey is up there historically as a fair guy. I feel like 3/4 of the league is pretty fair.
There a few guys that tie for least favorite cause I always feel like they always have to "win" the trade instead of making it fair for both.
offtheheezy: I probably message and bother people the most in the league
Least favorite is probably anyone who just never responds. Of the people that I feel are responsive though, I'd say Suns & Hornets, not because of anything personality wise, but because I never feel like I can get good value from them
UOducksTK1 commentary: LOL lukeyrid13 with more shots at the nets. Maybe we should all pay for these two to meet up in real life to battle it out. offtheheazy getting some love. I was hoping for some more drama in the responses, but thanks lukeyrid13 for the transparency. It's good for the league. What we learned is not to deal with the Suns, Hornets (unless your the Nets), Nets (only if you're the Blazers), or the Mavs (Or Kings or Spurs or Warriors).
Who is the most overrated GM?
dd10snoop28: Pacersgm – I’ve said it before so I don’t want to belabor the point, but I think they missed an opportunity to rebuild earlier than they did and that they sacrificed too much of their future for mediocre depth. Anyways, they still have a title and they are now rebuilding and can prove me wrong.
or
HeatGM – they did a great job with JBC (FA) and then acquiring Bird, but they haven’t really made any upward progress since then. I expected them to be top of the east and a finals contender each year. They are still a contender, but I would’ve expected them to surround those 2 guys with more talent than they have + win a championship by now.
lukeyrid13: I’ll say 76ers. Outside of getting Moses, there have been very few moves or trades to surround him with top talent
the goat: Tough to say because to be overrated you have to be rated by somebody... I'd say JayGreen and DrBradBus have not done the best job building around IT/Magic. Lots of wasted seasons while these guys are in their prime.
Craig: Not really sure the overall opinions of GMs but based on the GM rankings I'll go with dennocj.
bellsduck: I can't say anyone is overrated. I think the people at the top of the list have proven it over and over and won championships in 1.0 and 2.0. I guess if I had to pick one then I'd say me. I should be dead last. I think I'm the only original team owner that hasn't won a championship. I've lost so many bets at home playing this game, it's really unbelievable.
offtheheezy: I honestly don't know enough about the reputation of each GM to know who is overrated or not
UOducksTK1 commentary: I think Pacers and Bulls call outs are accurate. Dennocj enjoyed early success and some love on my rankings, but likely premature. He's on the right track, but there's doubters that he's even a top 20 GM. And Bulls have wasted IT's talents. Should have traded him or surrounded him with talent. I also think Nets calling out Heat is an interseting one. Anyway, hopefully no one takes this section personally, but uses it as a healthy motivation to do better. After all, it is just a sim league haha.
What is the best division in DASL in terms of GM talent?
dd10snoop28: Atlantic, by far. Then Midwest. Then central. Then Pacific.
lukeyrid13: Right now I think it’s the Atlantic. Zyme, DD and TK all made my top 5 GM list and that doesn’t even include the 76
the goat: Pacific, obviously
Craig: Atlantic
bellsduck: Midwest, followed by the Atlantic.
offtheheezy: I think the Midwest. Besides the Spurs not having a GM, every other team is pretty responsive and generally I feel has a clear plan for what they want to do.
UOducksTK1 commentary: Atlantic and Midwest getting the most love, and I wouldn't disagree. I do think the Pacific is underrated, but not quite up to par with the other divisions.
Give me your best player at each position.
dd10snoop28:
PG - Magic
SG – Griffith
SF – Schmidt
PF – Vlad
C- Moses
lukeyrid13:
C – Moses. Duh but it will be Hakeem in 2-3 years
PF – Probably the weakest position overall. I think Barkley though
SF – Oscar
SG – Darrell Griffith but Brunamonti is underrated and not too far behind
PG – Magic. His turnovers aren’t ideal but he is amazing otherwise.
the goat: Moses, Barkley, Schmidt, Griffith, Magic
Craig: Right this second (before TC), based on listed position:
C-Moses Malone
PF-Charles Barkley
SF-Oscar Schmidt
SG-Darrell Griffith
PG-Magic Johnson
bellsduck:
C Moses Malone
PF Charles Barkley
SF Oscar Schmidt
SG Roberto Brunamonti (A bit of a homer reach, but debatable at least)
PG Magic Johnson
offtheheezy:
C: Moses Malone
PF: Charles Barkley
SF: Oscar Schmidt
SG: Darrell Griffith
PG: Magic Johnson
UOducksTK1 commentary: Malone, Magic, and Schmidt are on every list. Barkley and Griffith would have been on every list too if it weren't for the homers (Shame on bellsduck and dd10snoop28). Pretty cool that there's basically a concensus on this.
If all GMs in the league met up to play 5 on 5 pick up basketball, are you good enough to start?
dd10snoop28: Yes, baby. Everyone is probably out of shape so I’m a starter.
lukeyrid13: Yes, but my knees are failing me pretty quickly. I know DDsnoop has good handles but I’d bet I was second behind him.
the goat: LOL I think I'm a few years younger than most of y'all so I'd definitely start by default. Every team could use a sniper on their team.
Craig: Yes
bellsduck: So top 10 out of 28. No doubt in my mind.
offtheheezy: Since this is a football forum, I'll go ahead and say a tentative worst-starter-on-the-court yes. I think I can provide value as a spot-up shooting guard / emergency point-guard.
UOducksTK1 commentary: Wow, everyone here thinks they're ballers. Nets at 5'9" 200 calling out everyone else out for being out of shape. The goat thinking being young and fresh is all the matters, while the old knee-less men, lukeyrid13 and bellsduck dominate. So much confidence from all of you. Low key, I bet Craig is 5'9" 400 pounds but is actually the best in this league. It'd be so fun to meet up and have an actual game one day.
Answer one of these three: What team won't make playoffs for the next 8 seasons? What team will win 3 championships in 10 seasons? What team will have 5 or more GMs in the next 10 seasons? (Ownage, if anyone gets this right can they have a +3?)
dd10snoop28:
3 in 10: Me or Raptors or Lakers
No playoffs in 8: Clippers (like real life)
5 or more GMs: Warriors
lukeyrid13: I can see the Magic not making the playoffs for the next little bit. They haven’t had great lotto luck and just don’t have any great pieces right now.
the goat: I think 8 years is too impossibly long given the unpredictable player movement around the league. But the Magic (sorry) seem like the biggest candidate to me. Cavs/Nets seem most primed to win some stuff if they can build around their big super stars. The Spurs seem most likely to cycle through a bunch of GMs, but maybe not that many
Craig: I'll say the Mavs win 3 titles in the next 10 seasons.
bellsduck: I don't know if any of these things will happen, but I'll go with Magic to miss the playoffs for 8 seasons. I don't see much on their roster that is very promising.
offtheheezy: The other questions are way too random and I don't think any team will have 5 or more GMs in the next 10 seasons. What team won't make playoffs for the next 8 seasons? My best current bet is the Magic because they currently don't really have any elite prospects, but also with their hodgepodge of players picked up on 1 year deals from FA they somehow still aren't the worst in the league. Magic GM's DC abilities must be through the roof because I have no idea how they consistently are mid-late lottery.
UOducksTK1 commentary: Craig and dd10snoop28 answered all three, maybe I worded the question poorly. Magic, prove the doubters wrong! And Nets saying Raptors will win 3 rings in 10 seasons is some mad love! Anyway this was a random question, let's move on to the next...
Which GM would you like to meet in person and go out to dinner with?
dd10snoop28: Bellsduck. He wants to murder all his former players. LOL
lukeyrid13: Anyone but the Nets GM
the goat: Briezy so I can bring up how I beat him in the Finals every 5 minutes
Craig: Anyone who will run one of these leagues is my kinda nerd. I know Ownage/TK have done so at least.
bellsduck: I'm gonna say dd10snoop28. Just seems like a down to earth guy that I probably have a lot in common with.
offtheheezy: I don't know anyone in this league in real life, but I've had some good experiences talking trade with Blazers. We can bemoan his FA luck and my TC luck
UOducksTK1 commentary: hahahahahaha! Some savage responses. I'll let the reader soak it all in without commentary.
If there's one thing you'd change in the league to improve it, what would it be?
dd10snoop28: Nothing. Fill the GM positions that we have right now. That’s it. And make sure we keep inflation down (we’ve done a good job of that!).
lukeyrid13: 10 day sims!
the goat: Increase the hard cap so I can keep more talent. I mean so the league can field better teams.
Craig: Fill the empty GM spots
bellsduck: 1) $100 cash buy in and if you leave after 1 year you only get $10 refund. After 2 seasons get $20 back. And so on and so on.
2) Every FA would realize how beautiful Utah is and want to sign there before choosing any other team.
offtheheezy: Not too much to complain about honestly. I really like that the league tries to deflate stats and prevent superteams. I'd say the only qualm is that outside of off-season our sim speed is a little bit slow, but also given Jibba & Ownage have to make draft classes and generally the spike in time for Ownage to sim off-season, they deserve a break. Really hope we can find Warriors, Spurs, Kings GMs soon - all three of those teams are pretty promising too!
UOducksTK1 commentary: Bellsduck has been waiting for years to have the platform to sell his buy-in idea. Agreed on filling the empty spots. And I do like that rating inflation has been kept in check, good job ownage / jibba.
Give us your finals prediction for this season?
dd10snoop28: Knicks vs. Lakers. Lakers in 7.
lukeyrid13: Lakers will benefit short term from re-signing Larry Smith (short term) and make the Finals against the Celtics. I think the Lakers pull it off for one last run.
the goat: Lakers vs Heat
Craig: Mavericks vs Cavaliers
bellsduck: If the Cavs can't get a SG then I'm leaning Pistons in the East and Mavericks in the West. Blazers and Rockets may have lost too much in FA.
offtheheezy: Lakers vs. Cavs rematch - with the Cavs winning
UOducksTK1 commentary: I'm also going with Knicks/Lakers.
And what year should we expect a championship from your team?
dd10snoop28: 1990, 1991, AND 1993. Thx!
lukeyrid13: I definitely need one more top level piece. I think I will need some level of luck to attain that and that my team will be a 4-5 seed for the next 3 years. If we can win a trade for a win now piece in a couple of seasons, we will win the title again around 91 or 92. This all assuming MJ comes back. If he also leaves, then I plummet to a bottom 5 team with no picks.
the goat: This year or next while we can afford to have actual players on the team
Craig: Pretty confident we can get one in the 90's. I'll go with 1993.
bellsduck: Lol. If it didn't happen last season, it's probably not ever gonna happen. It never has happened. I guess I should have some FA money to play with next season. I'm gonna be optimistic and say 1990.
offtheheezy: 1990 is the goal. If not championship contenders by then league should be ready for me to firesale all my players
UOducksTK1 commentary: So much optimism... Lots of you are gonna be disappointed.
