QUACK! 2023 OL Lipe Moala commits

Oregon has gotten another OL commitment, this time from 3* 2023 OL Phillip "Lipe" Moala out of Mater Dei HS in CA. He's a bit underrated because he missed his entire JR season with a knee injury and has been at 3 different high schools but has been garnering a lot of late attention in his SR season.

Ducks just offered him a couple weeks ago. He's solid. Doesn't look like he has an NFL ceiling (though you never know), but could be a really good multi-year contributor. Great size (6'5, 330), good strength, meh flexibility/balance, so-so speed, good understanding of the position. Good in a phone booth and not so good in space.

Watching his HUDL tape vs John Bosco he needs to get better hand/arm jab so he's not letting guys into his body to block them with his shoulder. He definitely doesn't "lumber" around the field for a kid at 330 though. His Hudl does say 6'7 315 which starts making him one tall Guard. With how big Sala is at RT, I wonder if they'd try him outside at all as we'll be pretty strong at Guard next year with Jones/Iuli at RG.

Tough to know how good he really is. Covid year he didn’t really play much, then missed almost all of his jr year due to injury. OL is hit and Miss. I’m not sure there is a spot you see more 5* and high 4* fail at, while 2-3* become studs.

I like that we are finally landing some OL recruits, now we need Fano to commit and we should be pretty solid there for the class. Maybe 1 JC also and a transfer portal guy.

Had a feeling he was related to Director of Recruiting Operations JR Moala but didn't know his uncle is also Haloti Ngata.
