Don't sleep on Illinois!

They some quality wins already. They beat #19 Kansas and #22 Nebraska. They struggled with the team we just shut out allowing 49 points and gave Penn State a game. Better bring our A game for sure. That being said, a home game and this team on a roll I expect the line to be 14-15, and the Ducks to cover. Our D is really good. Hope Burch is back for this one. Lots of 2nd teamers flying around on defense last night! Didn't give up the shutout!

It’d be nice to have Ferguson for his run blocking, Illinois is pretty good (though Nebraska lost that game more than Illinois won it) but Illinois has the worst run defense in the B1G, so I’m hoping for a really big day for James. Yeah don’t sleep but if Oregon shows up and plays a good game they’ll win by multiple scores. I’ll be looking to see how Oregon starts the 3rd quarter cause that does seem to be an issue with this team.

I think Ferg is the 3rd best blocker among scholarship tight ends. His route running is easily best.

After seeing both Illinois and Michigan play multiple weeks, I really can't say I'm scared of them against Oregon's defense. Oregon will likely stack the box and dare those teams to complete passes downfield against our secondary. As long as Oregon scores 21+ points, they should get wins against both.

Purdue also dropped 49 on them.
Kansas is 2-5, and Nebraska has no decent win.
We will wax Illinois IMO.

Illinois won't scare anyone yet is absolutely a top 25 team.

The Nebraska team that looked like a hs team in Indiana yesterday?
We will do what we’re been doing to both teams. Race out to a lead, force them to play catchup, and rest guys in the second half. We’ve literally only given up a TD by our starters to Ohio st in BIG play.

I watched the replay of the Illinois game and they ran the exact same fake punt as we did. Punter fading off to the right and jumping up and direct snap to a linebacker type for a big gain. Looked like they got it straight from our highlight reel.

It's a weird feeling as an Oregon fan to disregard any team. But under Lanning, I'm gonna do it. Illinois is going to get boat raced. Lanning is a different kind of dude, and he has made Oregon a different kind of team. You all remember those late nights in Arizona where we would randomly drop games we should have won? Those days are over. Sure, Ohio State may indeed beat us later this year, because they are THAT GOOD. But we are not losing to Illinois.

A huge factor in this is the fact that so many of these players are literally paid professionals now. And the entire program is build around ensuring they can focus almost entirely on football.

It seems like you are sleeping on Illinois. Did you not read the title of the thread?

I’m not sure what you mean here? They have the exact same responsibilities they have always had as a D1 athlete. They still have to go to class, or pretend too. And then play football. The NCAA literally made it almost impossible for them to make a living wage while under scholarship.
