OT Jac'Qwan McRoy enters transfer portal

Post by greenyellow »

Oregon has lost what many thought was the headliner of their 2024 OL recruiting class as OT Jac'Qwan McRoy has entered the portal.

That’s a huge bummer, I thought he had a bright future at Oregon.

I'm confused... with Conerly, Silva, and Cornelius gone, aren't the tackle positions open?

Maybe coaches said they'd hit the portal or something?

I doubt the coaching staff has "the talk" with any players until after the season, so I'll assume this was his decision and not the coaching staff. So that being said, wonder if it was team fit or cultural fit.

I don't have any inside information, so pure speculation, but could always be something completely apart from playing time. For all we know, he's homesick, or there's another reason he would prefer to be closer to home. I'm sure it'll come out over the next few days, but I'd have to think it's about more than playing time, given he had no reason to expect to play this year, and would likely have a shot to play next year.

Maybe the coaches have given him some indication that they don't think he is where he should be in development, and wouldn't be starting in the near future, but feels too early for that assessment to have been made, unless he drastically underperformed in practice.

Crazy to me that I would have been borderline devastated over this news just a few years ago, but I'm not now. Ultimate faith in Lanning and staff to fill any void it may leave.

Heard it has a lot to do with being homesick

I can’t imagine hitting the portal with your team ranked 1. I’d want to stick it out and see if I could be on a championship team.

Exactly my thought. Why now? You can’t ride out a shot at a championship that could only be a few weeks away? He has to be totally checked out, for whatever reason. Can’t have the distraction in the locker room, so I’m assuming he isn’t participating with the team any longer? He’s still showing on the GoDucks roster.

I thought maybe the timing had to do with quickly-filling roster spots, but I agree, he must feel completely separated from everything going on at Oregon to be okay with missing this.
