There's long been reported tension between Knowles and DL coach, Larry Johnson. Johnson is somewhat an immovable object given his track record, and forces the scheme to adapt around him instead of being adapting his group to the scheme. Surprising and not surprising.

I wasn’t aware of that, seems odd a DLine coach would have that level of influence. Hopefully that is something that will hurt Ohio State going forward.

I learned of it on Eleven Warriors after their loss against us. It will be interesting to see if that means he'll start deploying more Odd fronts (1/3/5 down DL) because one of the rumors was about Johnson wanting to keep his 4 man fronts and I know that Defensive Coaches love being able to throw the occasional Odd front in as an adjustment for a QB to have to make with box numbers and reading coverages.
