Big Ten rebrand?
Our current home conference recently posted this tweet which announced that something will be happening on August 14th, it has been linked to countless stuff like expansion or a new streaming service because nobody knows what it is: https://x.com/bigten/status/1955334087394181423
I did research on the subject and apparently they're parodying a Taylor Swift thing, albeit it's unlikely it's a collab with her,
Then things turned spicy when this dude named Bob Thompson posted this other tweet:
https://x.com/rltsports/status/1955441915744358547
What will the rebrand be tho? Imo there shouldn't be any since the conference branding is perfect as it is imo

Looks like it was just the Big Ten proposing expanding the playoffs to 24, 28 teams, and I absolutely hate it.

Yea... That's an absolute "f*** no" from me. They're really doing their best to kill the value of the regular season.OregonFan4Life wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 7:19 pm Looks like it was just the Big Ten proposing expanding the playoffs to 24, 28 teams, and I absolutely hate it.

I would be OK with it if they eliminated the conference championship games, put the extra games on the higher seed campuses, and started it around December 1.

College Football is making me despise it and the youth are already less interested in sports than they have been in the past.

X2, my interest level has gone down due to NIL, the transfer portal, the cannibalism of the PAC 12. last year’s playoffs was a joke with the seeding….ad four more teams and nobody gets a bye week. Will we ever get a incoming freshman and watch him develop over four years as we did with Herbert, Mariota or Harrington and many others?Duck07 wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 8:06 am College Football is making me despise it and the youth are already less interested in sports than they have been in the past.

These are the good old days. This statement being made by an alum who remembers 1977 (2-9 team that lost 54-0 at home to Washington) and the 1983 toilet bowl.

I'd also be okay with this. Conference championship games can either be great or suck because they end up being rematches. That's unfair to the team who won the regular season game. If there's going to be a rematch, let it happen in the playoffs.73duck wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 6:38 am I would be OK with it if they eliminated the conference championship games, put the extra games on the higher seed campuses, and started it around December 1.
My two cents.

Re: Big Ten rebrand?
I'm all for eliminating the conference championship games for major conferences (I do feel a little bit different for conferences like the MAC, Sun Belt, etc.) because it's a health risk for no reason. However, Having 7-5 and 8-4 teams get into the playoff completely ruins one of the unique facets of college football, and that's that the regular season matters. I'm not for the NFL-ization of the sport. Tuning in to see if Boise State is going to lose to Nevada or Alabama is going to lose to Vanderbilt is a major part of the sport, and it will most certainly die if you can be a highly regarded team with a crap record and still get into the playoffs. Nobody is going to care that your seed dropped from 6th to 14th due to a loss.

Re: Big Ten rebrand?
I am still of the opinion that the only way the changes of the past several seasons (and the continuing evolution), realignments, NIL, transfer portal, etc..., make any sense, is that the intended result is for the Big 10 & SEC to break away to form a separate elite (semi-pro) league that is more or less an analog of AAA baseball. If this come to pass,It is very possible that the already neutered NCAA is removed of all governing authority and a good chance that the BCS legal entity that still is the governing body of the current championship play off is also kicked to the curb.
Ideally, a new more NFL like framework could bring back some semblance of regionality with it's divisions, and a playoff that is determined solely by w/l records, but I'm highly skeptical of that happening. For some reason TPTB are too attached to voting or selecting who is worthy or not.

In such scenario, would college associations be broken away?duckpoint wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 10:32 am I am still of the opinion that the only way the changes of the past several seasons (and the continuing evolution), realignments, NIL, transfer portal, etc..., make any sense, is that the intended result is for the Big 10 & SEC to break away to form a separate elite (semi-pro) league that is more or less an analog of AAA baseball. Re: Big Ten rebrand?
Oh I meant more of why even be a college student anymore? If it's turning into minor professional league, no other minor league has classes to take, so would such a scenario remove the college/student aspect?
