Another week, another game, and with Texas losing to Georgia Oregon is now the #1 ranked team in the nation! But Illinois was coming to town, a well coached solid team and everyone wondered if this would be a test for Oregon. We pretty quickly found out that no, it would not be. The first half might have been the most complete half played by Oregon all season. Oregon justified their #1 ranking by absolutely destroying Illinois at all facets of the game, and as Whittington bulldozed an Illinois defender on his way to the endzone, Oregon took over the game to have a 35-0 halftime lead. Meanwhile the defense just flew around everywhere and the Oregon DLine was unblockable, it seemed like Altmyer never had time to do anything. With the fame over by halftime, Oregon took the jets off in the second half and ended the game with a 38-9 lead.
