This is feeling like a prove-it game. Does Oregon continue to wobble or do they reestablish themselves as a top-tier team?
Barring another monsoon, given the talent gap (5 vs 42 in composite team talent), if this isn’t a comfortable win, it’ll bring to question the trajectory of this program. Outside of the 2022 train derailment in Corvallis, Lanning does not lose to anything less than a transcendent offense. Iowa is fine and all, but find me anything close to what we’ve seen on offense from 2022 UGA, 2022/23 UW, 2024 OSU, and 2025 IU in this Iowa team… They’re a faceless fringe top 25 team. A team that, somehow 100% of the time, wins when they’re supposed to win and loses when they’re supposed to lose. A beautiful constant amidst frantic change in CFB. I’d rather UO not be the team to give Iowa an identity crisis.
Oregon wins by a few scores and they deserve to be in the conversation around a playoff bye. Anything else, and we have to entertain the possibility of a 9-3/8-4 season that rolls into the offseason with huge questions about the OL, DL, LB’s, and the scheme on both sides.
In fewer words, this is a big game with big implications.

I agree that the Ducks "should" win on paper. That said, where does Indiana rank vs Oregon in composite talent?
Iowa gave IU their best game of the season, so as much as player rankings do matter to an extent, coaching, developing players, individual matchups, game plans, and more go into who wins vs who loses. We're definitely more athletic then Iowa, but they have a very good D-Line and their offense seems to be hitting their stride after an early loss to Iowa State and a 38-28 win at Rutgers. They also destroyed Minnesota last weekend, and they beat Wisconsin on the road 37-0.
I'm concerned about this game because of the struggles we had against both Indiana and Wisconsin's defensive fronts, especially the pass rush. That said, those games should be good blueprints of how to slow that pass rush and move the ball more consistently.
I'm also interested to see how our defense does against their offense. If we can't stop/slow the run game we're in trouble.
I don't think it's program changing if we lose a couple more games. The fact of the matter is that we do have our weaknesses. In addition, our roster is VERY young! We have over 75 players on the roster (at GoDucks.com) that are Freshman thru redshirt sophomores, and several of those guys are in the two deep. This, along with next year's class, as well as an additional talent we can add through the transfer portal, should keep us relevant for years to come.
I do believe that Dan Lanning's job is very secure, though he may have to replace an assistant or two next year due to attrition.

I’m not saying this to say we will beat Iowa, but this idea the Iowa offense is turning things around isn’t 100% accurate IMO. Yeah they put up 41 on Minnesota, but that included a pic six, a punt return for a TD, and a really late garbage time TD. Iowa only put up 274 yards of total offense. They are getting better but I don’t see their offense as a real threat to the Oregon defense.
One area Iowa does scare me though is special teams, they have the best special teams in the nation and a vey dynamic punt returner. Fortunately for us though we have a punter that makes it very hard to field punts, so that bodes well for us. Iowa will play the field position game and if the Oregon offense isn’t moving the ball, they’ll gladly settle for 50+ yard field goals while consistently keeping Oregon on their own side of the field. This is the type of game where failed 4th down conversions by Oregon could be detrimental. Iowa has the 6th best 3rd down defense in the nation and has only allowed 3 4th down conversions out of 14 attempts, if ducks aren’t converting 3rd downs and continue to be as aggressive on 4th downs, it could spell trouble.
I’ve said this before, but I think this game will come down to coaching decisions on crucial plays.

Iowa scores more points per yard gained then any team in the B1G in conference play. This is a consistent trend for them over the whole year. That efficiency in scoring is from defense special teams and the offense almost always finishes its opportunities. The result is that in conference play they score the same as Oregon while only needing 300 yards per game to do it.

I think the game comes down to how Dante plays. He has kind of been a headscratcher.

I certainly get the general feel/worry on this board that "maybe the Ducks aren't as good as we thought they were" after the Indiana loss and the Wisconsin game. I feel it too.
But this is also where I tend to get a little philosophical. Not to be disrespectful of Iowa or its fans, but if the Ducks can't win this game, then they're definitely not the team I thought they were and I'll simply alter my expectations of them this year.
The suggestion of this being like the Utah game of two years ago is interesting, but I can't go that far, as nice as that would be. But it still feels like the Ducks should be 10-17 points better.
I also have to admit that it's startlingly to see a Hawkeye fan come on this board and say, "I think if it does come down to a battle in the trenches, Iowa wins convincingly," and, especially, "I am fairly confident the Hawks will take care of business Saturday." But I suppose more power to him to have that level of confidence in his team. I certainly didn't see the Indiana game playing out as it did, so maybe he'll turn out to be right!

Totally agree. When Dante starts the game in the zone and plays well, we can go toe to toe with the best teams in the country. When he gets rattled in the first quarter and goes on to play a poor game, we could lose to top 15-25 teams.

You shouldn't feel bad about your team if Iowa walks away with a victory. There are a lot of teams out there that left scratching their heads after playing the Hawks in Kinnick.
When iowa has a good offensive line, they have a good team. When they have a good quarterback, they have a very good (not quite great) team.
Another thing that is sometimes infuriating, but also admirable about Iowa is that they don't typically scheme to beat their opponents, they scheme to play good football and develop the players' fundamentals. Because of this, Iowa has been awfully hard to beat in November. 17-3 in their last twenty games.

One thing I do not think is a factor one way or the other is that the Ducks are coming off a bye, particularly since Iowa also is. It's been noted that the Ducks are 1-3 under Lanning coming off byes, but those three losses (at UW in 2023, tOSU last year in the CFP and Indiana this year) were all to pretty good teams. I don't think we can blame the bye.
I also note that the weather forecast for Saturday has changed rather significantly. Much cooler with some rain possible (TWC predicting a high chance of some rain and the NWS a relatively low chance).

Iowa has a good team, a good coach with a good track record, and they are at home.
This is a 50/50 game iMO.

Is there any website to rewatch the game? I wont be able to watch the game, as i’ll still be flying over the pacific for a business trip. I was hoping for a later kickoff.
