I debated putting this in “The Other Guys” or “NFL Ducks” so my bad if this is out of line.
I was literally scrolling various SM just looking at game updates today and trying to get a feel for what various NFL fanbases think of our guys.
The vitriol that seemingly everyone but Charger fans have for Herbert is so confusing to me. The guy does ZERO controversial off the field stuff, is basically a total bookworm archetype who happens to be a genetic athletic freak. He plays through injuries. He is active in all kind of community events and charities, ultra polite, clearly raised well (duh, it’s Eugene) and comes off as earnest, thoughtful and kind. A genuine good person. The most controversial thing about him is that he chooses to date a woman who looks like the Poster Child & Brand Ambassador #1 for the Feminology Hot Crazy Matrix.
Every season he routinely does something jaw dropping with his arm/legs or both…like earlier this year vs the Fins when he switched hands, fought to avoid a sack and found McConkey for a game winner or the way he shrugged off a few blitzing Broncos.
People were actively celebrating his subpar performance today. Dude is is behind an Oline comprised of my grandma and 4 dudes who were working at either Target or an auto dealer 2 months ago and he still performs at an All-Pro level, other than today.
I just don’t get it. He’s never asked for or even addressed the hate that he gets. This isn’t a situation like Joey back in the day where it was a mismatch of a city and a personality.
To me not liking Herbie is like not liking puppies or kittens. Or tacos. Or Santa.
Might not be the right spot for this.but why the Herbert “hate”

I saw a stat that said he's been hit in his career even more than Andrew Luck was with the Colts.
Makes me sad.
OL injuries this year were brutal for the Chargers and they had zero depth.

I watched a few weeks ago and Justin was running for his life the entire game. Getting injured was only a matter of time. I don't know how anyone can be expected to perform under those conditions.

It's entirely the creation of the Hot Take shows and personalities.
Emmanuel Acho was one of the first ones to really try and label Justin as a "Social Media QB" because he could do all these amazing things and then his team would fall apart and they'd lose since in the NFL, everyone knows that wins are a QB stat.
It's the same thing why people will rank Jalen Hurts as a better QB than Justin because of the team success the Eagles have.

He is an upper echelon talent who hasn't won in the playoffs. Regardless of the reasons, it makes him an easy target for the soft brained online football intelligentsia.
