It's hard to figure how this matchup will workout. Tech has an excellent defensive front-7. However, you have to question the talent they've faced this year.

Of course, the Ducks haven't played a brutal schedule themselves. USC, UW and Iowa were all good, and Indiana's defense was top notch.

I guess my question is, are we going to see a similar defense than what we saw vs Indiana, Iowa, etc or will they be a couple rungs lower, based on who they've played?

I'm hoping that Lanning and company are more prepared to face a talented defense that likes to blitz this time around. "If" they can get past Texas Tech, IU may be their next opponent.

I'm hoping they can keep Dante upright, he can get the ball out quickly, and we can establish the run. If they're able to shut down our running game it could be a long day.

I think you still have to give Oregon credit for beating #3 Penn State. Whatever broke in their locker room, broke after that game.

It's hard to tell how good they actually are. Their schedule was extremely light of competition. If beating BYU means they can beat the Ducks..........ummmm ok?

I'm not saying they are not good, they definitely are, I am just doubting they are "Ohio State" elite based on their schedule. And they have the same curse we had last year. How many days are they going to be off by the time they play us? 27? I am 100% convinced that was the cause of our poor showing last year. Rust is real. You can't sit around for a month not playing football and jump right back into a playoff game at full speed.

We have faced some stout and above average defenses. Texas Tech clearly has dudes and is loaded with front-7 talent. An advantage for us is that we have faced undersized-yet-destructive Dlines that excel based on athleticism, scheme and sound play (Indiana, JMU) and we have faced some punch you in the face physical front 7’s, like Penn State, Iowa & UW.

So we have experience in going up against both types. It always helps to not be experiencing something for the first time.

As far as matching up to the "style" of the opponent, it's funny that you could say Oregon is facing a better version of washington, or that Texas Tech is facing a better version of Kansas.

I guess that would be a yes for "style".

As far as quality of stats vs competition, Oregon's SOS is considerably higher, Best wins are better and Oregon's loss is a 'better' loss.

Scenario- Oregon’s offense is pitted up against the Oregon defense.

How do the results stack up against games Oregon’s actually played this year?
-Would we expect Oregon’s defense to perform better than what we saw from Iowa’s, PSU’s, or IU’s?
-Would the offense put more points on Oregon’s defense than IU’s 30?

Feels like a meaningful way to evaluate the team at this point in the season.

My thoughts - The D would contain the run relatively well early, but assuming Stein & Co. aren’t too stubborn when trying to force a balanced attack, I wouldn’t trust Oregon’s D generate any pressure nor to get off the field much. I’d imagine a half dozen PI’s on 3rd downs, and I’d worry the second half run D would show some serious cracks once they start to wear down/get frustrated. I’d imagine defensive stats similar to, or marginally worse than what Washington produced against UO. And if that were the case, given what we’ve seen from Iowa, IU, UW, Wisconsin, and PSU, I wonder is Oregon’s D championship good or a more a beneficiary of playing alongside one of the best offenses in the game?

RE - the TT game, if they generate enough pressure, and if UO is down their lead back, can the D do enough to give Oregon‘s offense time to poke holes in a stout TT D? Given the above exercise, I’m worried.
