QB Austin Novosad to enter transfer portal

In no shocker, QB Austin Novosad will be entering the transfer portal. Writing has been on the wall since early in the season once he didn't retain the QB2 role behind Moore. Hoping this means Oregon feels good about keeping Moore or they feel they can land Leavitt/another transfer QB.

Makes sense. Cool he stuck it out so long.

I was actually hoping we'd eventually see him as the full time starter. I'd always heard great things about his play and work ethic. Good luck wherever he goes. Wouldn't be shocked to see him end up at Kentucky or Arizona state

Good luck to him! Maybe he can be another Schough and make it to the league.
I'm starting to get the vibe that Moore is staying unless we somehow manage to win the natty this year...

Bummer unless this means that Moore is staying. Always felt that Novosad was gonna be a stud whenever he became a starting QB, whether at Oregon or elsewhere. Best of luck to him. I think he's gonna ball out wherever he goes.

Of all the behind-the-scenes things I would love to get insight into, the top of the list for me is what's happening in the QB room. We see Moga look like a future starter in the spring game, and Novosad looks like a guy who would come in and help you win a game if Moore is to ever go down. During the season, we actually see the coaching staff do everything in their power to avoid playing either, whether by extending Moore into unnecessary minutes or bringing in a walk on. It's clear to me there's something beyond what we can see on our TV screens and I'd love to some day find out.

I thought it was just injuries? Anyway, sorry it didn't work out with Novosad, and like many, I was bummed to not see him coming in for the #2 minutes this season. You hate to see a guy wait that long for his turn to come and then not get rewarded. Not a great message for future back-ups at Oregon either.

Then why didn't Stein have him playing minutes this year?

Glad I'm not the only one scratching his head at this one. Our QB room has been baffling this year outside of Moore. We have three guys that legitimately looked like they could start for this team yet only ONE saw the field all year.

From a 247 podcast earlier this year our walk-on has been the most accurate of any Duck qbs not named Dante Moore this year.

No offense to those guys, but they don't see practice either, nor so they report on anything the coaching staff wouldn't want them to report on.

Stein brought him in from Texas when Dante flipped to UCLA IIRC, like the next day

I think Novosad is truly a Free Agent right now and not a UK lock as we may have presumed in the off-season since he hasn't had a hold on the QB2 spot.
I'm also hopeful it does mean that Dante is letting people around him know what his plans are and maybe its also a reason that Iapani announced he'll return because that's going through the locker room that Dante is too.

I think there comes a point where coaches have to acknowledge if a player is really excelling in practice and thus has earned their spot on the depth chart; which helps to remind everyone else that playing time is earned not given.
