Pac-10 Recruiting: When Bellotti Says It’s Good, It’s Good

Good recruiting break down and really the only way to judge a recruiting class...(ala wait a few years). Covers years 2002 thru 2005.

The Ducks deliver. They keep more than their fair share of recruits in school, build depth, and develop stars.

Must be all that 'elbow grease' Chip and Mike are applying...

This is why I haven't been worrying about this class at all. The coaches always make good player & teams out of who they get, no matter the amount of stars. That's also why getting a few great classes is so tentalizing. If they make Pac 10 championship teams out of mediocre classes, I can't imagine what they'll do with a team loaded with 4 & 5*s.

Bellotti can say what he wants and people here can "praise" the recruiting classes, but recruiting still needs to get better and the results on the field can still be better. Remember that we have only been to 1 BCS game under Bellotti. Don't get me wrong, the program is very good, but some of you talk like Belloti, Kelly, etc are like god and can do no wrong.

I know we all have high expectation out of our team but if you take a good looking back to who we got to Eugene, I think we did very well, my friend.

On another note, I for one, also think a change of our coaching staff is good since Coach MB might had used up all of his old tricks (USC and CAL able to take advantage on us and beat us soundly year in and out), but not to discredit his success at UO. It's hard to recruit 4 or 5 stars to UO--especially on D (with Coach Allioti in charge (rumor USC shows their blue chips prospects of our D then ask them if they wanted to play for us? ). Bottom line, if we want to reach to another level, we mustt have touch D. I hope Chip can get his guy once he is in charge of the program.

Ted Miller said it best, to paraphase: that for the lack of talent in the state, Bellotti does a good job in finding and developing raw talent. We will get better at attracting the multi-stars, buut that has not always panned out on the field.

I personnally like the dedicated hungry (Coach we're going to eat tonight!)

My post had nothing to do with stars. It had to do with recruiting the right group of players where we can go to a BCS game every so often.

You don't need to be defensive most of your posts tend to be of the negative/pessimistic nature, so don't be surprised when they call you out!

That's fine, not everything is as "rosy" as some people make it seem. I understand that people want to be positive and say stuff like the following: "It's ok if Braxton Lane doesn't make it to Oregon", or "It's ok if Leon went elsewhere and if we lost Thompson or Wade". What some people don't seem to realize is that all of these things add up and become huge losses. We have to do a better job of going after and getting players that will qualify and will stay at Oregon instead of taking so many risks. I just think we need some "continuity" if we want to get to a BCS game maybe every 3 years or so.

Technically you're correct. However, keep in mind that we got hosed as the #6 team in 2005 and should have been in the Fiesta Bowl. Our loss to Oklahoma doesn't matter.

Also, the Cotton Bowl was considered to be very prestigious in 1994, Bellotti's first year.

Lastly, Bellotti has taken this mostly 3 star talent and had two legitimate shots at the national championship game. It wasn't his fault that Dixon went down and it wasn't his fault that the BCS system robbed us in 2001.

Cut the guy some slack. Everyone wants a boatload of star recruits each year, but it's not always going to happen, that is, until we can turn the sunshine on in Eugene more often and expand the airport into a major stop, which is highly unlikely, especially in this economy.
