DraftWatch.net/96

Post by Zyme »

Well due to management issues our old domain was bought out from under us by some internet magnet by the name of Cuban. Regardless, gime marches on and so does the newly online Draftwatch.net. Though based in NY and disappointed that the East finally relinquished the crown to the West, we must congratulate Shaq on his ring and his doctoral admission into Berry University (I heard they were very sad that you exhausted your eligibility before you applied for the Ed.D. program). Hopefully he is distracted enough to give the east back the rings it deserves.

The 95 class has entered the league and the 96 has the potential to be explosive:

Kevin Garnett, a freshman at the University of Illionis, has been lighting it up this season. While man thought he might test the pros after some poor SAT results. He got in his fifth test right at the deadline and squeaked past admissions. It was widely rumored that if he had not made the grades he would have declared and not attended college. In the early non-conference, admittedly against weaker opposition, the frontcourt man (who has been playing most of his time at C so far) has been outstanding. His motor has been crazy, bordering on psychotic. He has exploded onto the scene scoring 21/9 from the high post. Certainly one to watch.

Draftwatch would also like to note for any of those posting that this only includes upperclassmen and, in addition, any known underclassmen who have showed interest in declaring. The list will expand and contract as the rumors roll in.

The East PA Experience:

In the small town Blue-Collar town of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, there lies Lower Marion Highschool. This year, out of such humble settings has one of the most highly recruited players in the nation come out of. The son of a longtime NBA and FIBA vet Kobe Bryant, a kid named after the high end Japanese Steers, has surged into the national spotlight in recent months as one of the most exciting college prospects in the nation. He seemingly has infinite range on his jumper and explodes to the basket when he is overplayed. Nobody on this level can guard him 1v1 and even doubles struggle to contain him. One team even tried a triple team and even that was broken frequently with a quick give and go. While he is considered a possible early entrant there are some question of his youth being able to transition to the speed of the NBA game and also his possible professional Soccer career. He has received an offer from the pretty much every major school in the nation and even has an invite from the AC Milan European football academy to play for their football and basketball teams. He shows great promise and will have many choices facing him when decision time comes.

Wow Timmy coming early huh.

Even without Kobe, this is a ridiculous draft class lol. I'd love to be in it :D

But it looks like 97 will be the summer of Iverson and Nash. For now. Makes sense, considering how stacked this one is. 97 would only have T-Mac, Billups, and that's about it for now lmao. Unless someone declares early in 98. Even Duncan's declaring in 96 lol.

This draft is so stacked. If I do land the #1 pick, I will definitely have trouble choosing lol.

Unrest in UMass:

The "injury" of Marcus Camby seems to be less, and yet more than what it was first thought to be. Considered one of the top collegiate players this year, Draftwatch has discovered the UMass center has been scheduled for an appearance before the NCAA board for discipline. Why is not known at this stage, but he was seen running on campus and working out in the student athletic center and not at the team facilities. While this is boosting the level of competition for the Rec Center's pick-up games, it is a strange sign.

Other rumors/notes:
Scott Pollard, C, Kansas: The 6'11" starting Junior center for the Jayhawks has indicated that he may be seeking new challenges when the season is over. The Lawrence World-Journal is reporting that in a post game interview that he may be exploring his options as this level is "getting a little to easy".
Stephen Jackson, G/F, Oak Hill Academy Secondary School: The nation's leading high school scorer seems to be struggling making the grades. The likely-all american has failed to receive the grades to attend his any of the Tobacco Road schools and may explore the NBA Draft or the community college route.
Timothy Duncan, PF, Wake Forest: The F/C has been outstanding this season averaging 19/13 with 3 assists thrown in. When ambushed by a Winston-Salem Journal reporter after their recent upset of #1 Duke, Duncan calmly responded, that he appreciated the interest in him entering the draft but he wanted to take his time no any decision but added he did want to finish his degree (though next year or in the future was not specified). It is reported he has an outside shot of making the 1996 Olympic swimming squad and declaring for the draft may interfere with these dreams.
