Yeah it's hard not to become a little disappointed in the progression off the field; in light of this kind of news. Real bummer. I don't doubt that something happened, we'll see how the story shapes up and what the subsequent action is.
What can you do though as a coach? You obviously can't fully control everything that goes on. I mean really the best thing you can do is try to recruit higher quality kids.
This just sucks though, not what you want in your program. Let's hope this story isn't true.

It def puts the coaching staff between a rock and a hard place. Lots of these kids come from backgrounds where this kind of thing might be common place, and that type of response to confrontation is deeply ingrained--not that it makes it right. When you're talking about college athletes (college students in general really) this is a time for maturing and learning how to conduct yourself as an adult (in my case and many others via trial by fire).

To beat up somebody over a girl is just plain stupid. Best idea when there's some type of confrontation is to walk away and not start anything violent. Common sense seems to be in short supply with these players. When I was in college, I knew better to not get into situations that could turn ugly. Really time to crack down on these players.
Not to be a doubter but I would have expected this to have shown up on twitter by now and nothing yet. Anyone else hearing anything from any other sources? If these guys have first hand accounts then I find it hard to discredit them, given their status here. But my sanity compels me to call you guys liars. Just kidding of course but at this point I'm just lurking for further info.

I agree it's stupid. I just know that when I was 18-19-20 I put myself into plenty of stupid situations--many of which could have turned out really poorly, especially when irresponsible consumption of alcohol and masculine challenges were involved, and I did not come from a particularly violent or confrontational environment. I'd say that common sense is in short supply for lots of college aged kids out after 11:00 p.m. I do think it's time to crack down though--it will be real important to send an appropriate message in light of how this thing plays out.
Believing this is true, it's the type of thing that (to me) would warrant expelling a player from the team. Given this off season so far, it's probably also a situation where CK is going to have to hand out punishments very quickly. That is, if he wants to be perceived as a coach that tries to keep his players in line -- if that's still possible.
Honestly, this sounds uglier than the Masoli situation.
First of all we still don't if it's true and if it did, what exactly happened. But, If there were 6 of them and all 6, which I doubt, were involved in beating this one guy they can all kiss their ass goodby from the football team. I just hope they were second tier players.
Usually stuff like this is all over the place by now and this is the only place I've heard anything about it. So hopefully there's not much truth to it.
I love how the student is the automatic "victim" on this site and the player are the villains. I know plenty of douche bag students who would run their mouths at athletes and who would lie about how many beat them up.
Honestly, I don't know why someone would make something like this up. However, the story sounds really fishy. 6 football players would beat up one dude because of that? Seriously?

Yeah that's why I was wondering about the context of the whole thing. In any case, beating down on an individual with 6 guys is typically poor form (if indeed that's what happened).

Revisit the Masoli and LMJ threads of last year and see how 'fishy' we all said it was then. Again, I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

The Masoli and LMJ incidents seemed to be all over the net within hours of the stories breaking.
I've haven't heard anything about this anywhere else and if one guy was beaten up BADLY by 6 guys the cops would have been invovled and I would think it would have been reported by the news already.
